White Widow & Gorilla Cake Grow Journal

Big growth spurt! Putting these guys into flower next week.

Progress... and I changed my light setup a bit. Two 50 watt actual-draw LED fixtures on their way should be here by Wednesday. Right now the whole setup pulls about 140 watts from the wall. After replacing a couple bulbs for the two 50s that should increase to about 220 watts for flower :)

Nice setup with the drum... only used em before for what they called “uds: ugly drum smoker”. Are you pruning aggressively to keep these plants in the drum for the entire term? My mistake was having a big space and in veg, they got big... in flower they are too big and 18” from a 9’ ceiling
 
It's been five days since I last updated you guys and these plants have taken off! I ordered a couple 50 watt actual-draw LED fixtures online and since they turned out to be awesome I am ordering some more soon. Actual wattage draw for my setup is close to 200 right now and the incandescent equivalent is something like 600 watts (yeah I know IE doesn't really mean much lmao) but I hope that by the 18th they are big enough that I feel comfortable switching them into flower light cycle :)


Edit: anyone else think I should scrog this mess? Im thinking about it just not sure how to go about it with this set up. Feed back is appreciated!

Edit 2 lol: I've never scrogged before but 'Sea of Green' and bend and secure is basically my modis operandi. So far bending and breaking is all I've done to these plants to achieve the shape and coverage I wanted.

I have switched the light cycle to 11/13 day-night. It's been about 3 days under that cycle and six days since my last post. I have been doing heavy defoliation for the past couple weeks, basically taking off any growth that will not be substantial in the end. Only grow what you need haha. I've also topped off the soil in each pot with some super soil I mixed with some bone meal and muriate of potash in a ratio of like 4:1 bonemeal to potash. Now I guess we just wait for those buds to show up :)

Approaching the end of the first week of flower and I'm happy to announce that all of the White Widows have shown white pistils. Still waiting on the Gorilla Cake so my fingers are crossed it doesn't turn out to be a male! I've also done some more defoliation of lower canopy leaves and insignificant growth nodes that would only suck away energy from areas with more potential. Shouldn't be long until these girls are covered in hairy budlets!

603budboss. I'm not much of a plant doctor, but you might want to keep a close eye on it, just in case it hermies on you.
Maybe some one else can help you better than I can.
That sure is a beautiful plant you got for your Avatar.
 
So it turns out I was right about all the wWhit Widows being female. I have theories about how bag seeds end up being feminized but I'll touch on that another day. However Im going to assume the entire bag of White Widows I have will be female now but that's just a side note as well. Anyway, the only gorilla cake I had turned out to be a male or at least it looked enough like male prebuds that I've seen before so I cut it. Now I have significantly more space for my three girls anyway so silver lining loud and clear. I've attached a couple photos in one you can see beautiful little hairs coming out of one their armpits :)

I've only ever had hermies from light leaks. Since then I've doubled down my efforts to keep plants completely blacked out during flowering so I'd be shocked if I got a hermie. Luckily I think these plants are full female since they are all progressing very well with no balls forming at all, and hey thanks! That was a Durban Poison that I grew from seed under 90 watts of LED in a closet! I still have a bag full of those seeds as well so I definitely plan on a other Durban grow in the future!
 
Mostly if not all seeds that come from hermies, are female.
I don't know where you got your WWidows seeds though,
But I remember saying on your first post, they looked good to me.
But I ain't a plant dr. either, like some of these folks are, plenty of good help on GWE, but I would read Nebulas tutorials before I listened to anyone on GWE, me being the first one, not to listen too.
You can't go wrong listening to Nebula and Sirius, they KNOW their business.

I like to consider myself somewhat an apprentice of Nebula and Sirius as I've used their website GWE as a Bible through my journey growing. I too have found their info to be the best available! Truly great growers. :)
