White Powdery Mildew and soft light (no, we're not going out on a date!)

One of the things that has become a common “feature” in my two years of growing cannabis is white powdery mildew. This time of year here in the SF Bay Area we often have somewhat damp nights, which, I understand, can bring on WPM. I've noticed in my seemingly never ending search for the nasty crap that it's often easier to see the stuff when the light is "softer" in the evening and I am looking obliquely across a leaf rather than looking straight on in bright light. The mildew just seems to visually jump off the leaf in terms of my being able to see it. Maybe it’s my old fucked up eyes or brain.

I’ve found that I can’t really take a picture of the phenomenon, and definitely not with my old smart phone’s camera. I ain’t no Ansel Adams, but I doubt even he could do this effectively.

Has anybody else experienced this?

On a somewhat related subject, is there another color of powdery mildew that attacks cannabis? Why do we specify “white?” Inquiring minds want to know.

And yes, that's real taxidermy.
