where do you measure the temp?

i grow in a couple of grow tents and a few garage cabinets turned into grow tents.... I have fans set up that are controlled by wifi thermostats that can cool the tents down pretty well. my question is, where do you put the measuring probe for the thermostat to measure the temps? If I'm shooting for 70F, do I measure that at the top of the canopy? at the base of the soil? at the very bottom? There's a good bit of temperature difference between the bottom and middle and top of the tent. I have tons of recirculation fans setup, but you can only do so much about physics. what should the temps be and where do I measure?
 
I have a temp and humidity probe in the middle of my canopy. It controls the exhaust fan. I also have temp probe at the top of my tent as well.
 
I point and shoot everything in the grow room, then adjust as required. Also use it to check the covid police.

Good question dustydundee ,as everyone says, it makes a difference where it's placed. Recently bought my first temp/humidity reader.
First I placed it where pots sit & readings were about 20°C /42 % - Now moved it to the wall at height of plant tops & readings seem more agreeable , from 22-25°C / 48-55%
Noticed a photo of someone hanging the meter above plant tops - looks a good idea.

Dang @PLreef...could you share your set up? That is something I'd def be interested in. How does the probe control the fan?
 
I also hang mine from the light, and measure 24 inches down from light. When I.have to move light closer to canopy, I adjust accordingly
I keep it at top of canopy
