When to water

Jezus man, im beginning to think your a TROLL! . WTF does this have to do with growing weed?? It's a ROSE FARM...they grow roses. You probably haven't even bothered reading anything here, your looking for someone to hold your hand throughout your grow. I think NebulaHaze and SiriusFourside have covered watering plants quite well...maybe you just glanced over it when you were reading and learning. lol

I read the material on this site. The link I provided is much better. And it has everything to do with growing any potted plant.

I did learn from the site. Thanks. I thought it was very well written. However a picture is worth a thousand words.
What the video added were pictures of plant roots and soil at 5 stages of watering in a pot. This is helpful regardless of whether the plant is a rose bush, cannabis, or a pine tree. It is especially useful to people like me who have not grown an indoor plant before.
I’m sorry if it offended you or the people who put this site together. That was not my intention.
 
No offense taken, all the answers to all the questions that you have ask so far are on the GWE web site. Green bar at the top of the page. All or most of us have read about everything it has to offer. Some of these Pollen chuckers on the forum have wrote this information thats available free. Educate yourself with the basic of cultivation of cannabis.
 
I have had an issue with my ph60 meter where the repeatability is off by about 0.10. That is close enough but I just wondered if anyone else has the issue.
I prepare the water ahead of time and store it in milk jugs. It goes from a milk jug into a 1 liter container, 3/4 full, 750ml. The first 750ml will be 6.50, for example. The second or third will be 6.60, or 6.62, say.
I’m thinking it may have to do with the storage solution in the little cup, as before I put the meter in the water it is reading low, 4.50 for example, so there’s a long way to go. Then the second 750ml I measure the meter is reading in the low 6’s before I insert it, not near as far to go.
Anyway I was just wondering.

Storage solution should read 4.00 on the pH meter.

Caibrate your pH meter according to the instructions. Refresh the Storage solution.


When measuring pH allow the solution to settle before taking a reading. pH in freshly mixed solutions are not immediately stable and this includes measuring after a decant.

I apologize for the late response. I didn’t get a response for a day (or two?) and then forgot about it.
The meter still behaves in the same way, but I think you are on to something about refreshing the storage solution. That makes the most sense. The problem is most prevalent when I first start to use it.
I will give that a try.

I reread instructions on the storage solution bottle, and it said to wash off the electrode in distilled water after use and before putting on the cap with storage solution. That was a step I was omitting. I’m including that step now and we’ll see how it goes.
Another example of the problem. Today I watered two plants with 3 containers each of water and measured ph of each one. The readings were 6.28; 6.52; 6.53. The next plant (and jug of water); 6.43, 6.45, 6.45.
Obviously the issue is with the first reading, and it takes a long time for the meter to go from its very low initial reading to 6.28 (in this case). And you can hold it there forever (it seems) and the reading has stopped climbing. The next time however it starts much higher and gets to 6.52 quickly. It seems that the issue is with “machine memory”; that is all those low readings earlier are averaged in, preventing it from going higher.
We’ll see if rinsing the tip corrects the problem.
 
Is it an Apera PH60 you are using?

As long as the probe hasn't been stored in distilled water or the probe older than a year or more it should be fine.

But the way it is behaving indicates it is not. Readings shouldn't take more than 5 or 6 seconds to get a solid reading in a stable solution.

It is an apera. I found the problem. It’s the storage solution. I washed the probe with distilled water before I used it and the 3 readings were repeatable to about 0.03.
It’s the storage solution that it calls for but the readings are really low when I first turned it on and until it is washed off, one way or the other.
 
This is not so much of a question as it is a request for comment. I planted a couple of germinated seeds 6 days ago and still haven’t watered them because the surface hasn’t dried out. It finally occurred to me that the only thing pulling water from the soil is evaporation, because the plants are so small. So it will be awhile before I can get on a 3-4 day watering schedule.
Am I thinking about this correctly, or should I start a watering schedule before the surface dries out initially?
 
If your in soil and they are seedlings in a large pot Id be giving them at least 7 or 8 days between watering unless they are in stupidly hot and sunny conditions

I’m trying to post a photo but in case it doesn’t work I have 2 seedlings in bud cups, the size of solo cups. So there’s not an issue with too much soil/ water availability.
