what's this dark color thing on my plant?

Hello All.

This is the second time I've seen this on my plant growing outside.
There is dark spot in the 2nd picture which causing some issue with the plant.

There is a nice cola forming on that branch and I don't want to cut it.

Anyone seen this before on their plant(s)?
What can be done to prevent and cure this.

That is mold. Also called pythium. That branch is gone. Not much you can do to prevent. Maybe just trichoderma harnazium but is hard to get it on the branches, once you can see the dark spot the damage is donde and not stoppable. Cut it off with a couple of inches of extra branch just to be safe. Sorry for your loss

It can be slowed down with application of high concentration peroxide with a qtip or similar, but that will also burn the plant. Worth a try if you are a short time from harvest. Eventually it is a lost cause and will take down the plant if u don;t cut it.
 
Got curious as I am familiar only with black mold on outdoor plants and did some research on pythium or crown rot. I could not find anything that appears much more than a few inches above the root ball.
Can someone shoot me a little more information on what's going on here, please?
 
I am not discrediting y'all's diagnosis. My thing is the pictures I see all show issues at the root crown and information that says P and F are more problems for early clones.
My semi-informed self would call that a developing gall. An annoyance but hardly a plant killer.
dmnted I'm only asking questions, here. Do what these other good folk recommend. Can you autopsy the stem and post pictures? I imagine whatever you do, sterilize everything that stem comes in contact with.
 
When you cut it out you will see it to be hollow and close to the same color inside. Never got any growing indoors,only outside. Most i have found where on the main stem and the entire plant suffered.
 
I done the same with the peroxide. Eventually the bark comes off, then I've coated the area with wood glue to protect the stem.
Saved a branch until harvest.
 
Mold spores germinate above about 60%RH. You cannot keep mold spores away from your plant, neither indoors nor outdoors, but you can keep RH lower than that indoors. Outdoors, well bad luck. Keep them dry and breezy.

Indoors you need the environment lower than that as the RH inside the flower structures will be higher than that of the ambient room RH, and same goes for temperatures. One reason why we need decent air movement, to ventilate through the buds.
