What's the best number of plants for tent?

Hello all. I am about to start my first grow with White Widow seeds. My tent is 27" × 52" × 80". I am using a 400w HPS but I can go with a 600w if it would give me a better yield? I am not sure how many plant's I should grow? I figure it is either 2 or 3 but I don't want to over crowd it. Also what is the best amount of time to let it be in the vegetative state? Everything I read it says at least 6 weeks. Does this sound right? I know there is tons of info on this site and others but there is never a clear answer? I know I'm asking the professionals here.l and will get a better answer?
 
Your plant count is going to be more determined by the length of your vegetative stage . If you do a short eg of only a few weeks you can do a lot more plants . If you do a longer veg your plants will get much bigger so you may want to consider using less plants . If this is your first grow I would suggest going with fewer plants it’ll be easier to take care of and to learn
 
I would personally go with the 600watt. Veg time really depends on how they grow and how you plan on training. What size pots and how many can you fit will also tell you more. You could fill the tent with a single plant in a scrog, 3 or 4 mainlined plants, or 2 bushy monsters. But I'd definitely go with 600watts for any of the above.
 
I would agree 100% that a higher wattage light would definitely give him a better grow but assuming that he’s already bought a 400 W light I’m sure he will still get a nice grow . Unlikely for first timer to achieve a gram a watt but the 400 W light has the potential of essentially a pound of marijuana

Fewer the better for 1st grow. Also have to consider height, you will lose some with light hangers, my tent is 84" high, I veg till they are about 3 ft high at most. That will give you room for stretch + light distance from top of plants. Go with the 600w, better coverage.

I would suggest that you have 3 plants in 5 gallon containers and veg for 4 weeks.
As far as which light- I adjust light based upon the heat/temps in the tent, -as plants thrive in consistency and not being stressed.
ie in the winter I use up to 1080w LEDs and the summer reduced to as low as 480w LED's.
 
Sure but that depends on many factors. Since the 400 watt will cover a 3x3 area and the tent is roughly that, it should do just fine 😉.
 
I love That you determine your vegBy plant size and not weeks because this can be missed leading to new growers I do the same thing for weeks for one grower may be astronomically different than four weeks for another and it’s best to have a size comparison to go on in my humble opinion
 
i use a 400 watt hps i have growen 4 plants with fair succuess now i have 1 it is 26 inch across 34 inch tall very good grow
