what to do in case of a power outage?

Hypothetically speaking how would one recover from a power outage that disrupts your current light cycle whether veg or flower?

just a question that's been sitting in my noggin

For light, a artificial light source like a torch or lantern. Even just light coming from a window will be enough to keep a plant healthy until power comes back on.

For temperature, having the plants in the saming living area you are should be sufficient, though you wouldnt have to consider this unless its going to be a while before reconnection or your dealing with some insane temperatures.

For true hydroponics, not sure. But i would reckon it would be important to get air to the roots. Id say you would have to get air in some how, or cycle the water in and out.

Hi Ian, It will also depend on what stage your plant is in. I lost power for a week during flowering last October during hurricane Matthew. I was growing in a large grow box, so I emptied most of water out of the reservoir so my roots wouldn't drown, left the door of the box open duing 12 hours of light and closed it for total darkness for 12. Went on to harvest some pretty nice Chemdawg bud, and even with the reduced amount of light (only coming from a window), the two plants did well.

Howdy IanHale, The first thing that I do is PANIC, then run around like a chicken with my head cut off, then I turn on every battery powered flash light and hope that the power comes back on! No. seriously, I am working on installing some auxiliary lights. They look light wall light switches, but have two rows of COB LEDs and are very bright, I have not seen any details on them, but they are difficult to look at directly.
I was not joking about the flashlights, I had them hanging up all over my grow room when we had an outage last year.

All great advice, but as an alternative you could just grow autoflowers.
They'll take any lighting shenanigans in their stride : )

Autos really don't care about light schedules at all. Indeed many auto growers run their light 24 hours a day. I personally run 20/4 to give myself a bit of a break on the electricity bill. However, I can open my tent during the dark period if I need to. I never have to worry about light leaks or anything. If it's hot during my plants' "night" I open the top of my tent to lower temps without any issues.

Autos are just easier all around

Run a power inverter to a car battery and run the battery to a charger and to the wall ull use half the power and u got a bck up for power outage

Half the yield I'd say. Autos are kinda on their own clocks, they're gonna finish when they're finish.

This said, I don't actually know if a 12/12 auto would finish later than a sister plant on 24/0. My intuition is that it may do, but the difference would be only a week or so. As such, the net benefit wouldn't outweigh the 40-50% drop in available light/photons across the grow.

So much of the available "science" is based on photo, I'd love to find a soft science book just on autos.
