[I've been trying for a half an hour to upload photos of this, but they won't go for some reason.]

My last surviving plant has bounded back beautifully -- full, deep-green healthy new growth...but the old, weak leaves have developed the condition in the picture, the likes of which I've never seen before in any picture. It looks as though they have writing on them!

It looks as though some of this is spreading to the new leaves.

What IS this? What do I do about it? It looks like it's going to eat the whole plant in a matter of a day or two!

Wow, that picture is exactly like what I have. I've been cutting affected leaves off at the stem for the past twenty minutes. The infestation was really aggressive -- but if I get it all will it still come back?

If not is there a safe non-toxic insecticide that will work for this? Though it's not in blossom yet, I'd like to be able to save some usable leaf out of it as this is the only surviving plant I still have. I'm not clear on where I am with spinosad with that.

Also, are there any signs of eggs before this starts? It seems to me that some "healthy" leaves have tiny spots on them. Are those eggs?

I'll see if I can get a small bottle of spinosad (I only have one remaining plant) somewhere locally today while I still have some leaves left.

Will it kill these eggs that are causing the problem?
 
Got it...stuff was .001% spinosad. $12. Some racket, huh? Sprayed it and we'll see, I guess. There was already new leafmining this morning after only about ten hours since pulling all the bad leaves.
 
Checked it just now. LOTS of new leafmining, still. Absolutely re-soaked the plant in the spinosad spray. I guess we'll see. Triple-digits today. I'll probably have to bring it inside later and will trim the bad leaves off then.
 
When I had leafminers, I just cut off the damaged part, not the whole leaf or even the whole finger.
 
It looks OK now and is bouncing back once again. I swear, this plant is on about its third set of leaves since I planted it. New growth is exploding after a fertilizer dose.

I did cut off too much infected leaves initially, but it doesn't seem to take long for the new ones to show up. This morning, I only found two small spots, which I carefully snipped from the leaf.

111° today, so it's staying in and getting light through the window.
