What is this gooo

I made a large batch of oil using the everclear method. I let it warm evaporate for about 12 hours. I then dissolve it in coconut oil because it is too sticky to work with. This time there is a large ball of goo at the bottom that will not dissolve in the oil. I remove it from the liquid and put it in hot coconut oil by itself. still will not dissolve. What is this goo?

No idea dan. But sounds like one or more compounds in there are soluble in alcohol but not in oil. You could investigate further to find witch molecules are not being dissolved or you can use an emulsifier to bind them. You need to dive into chemistry for both. Hopefully someone more educated in the matter can help

Understood but mostly what I am worried about is how much THC is bound up in this goo. Thanks 9

That's water, which is why it won't dissolve in oil. When you evaporate Everclear, the alcohol evaporates very quickly leaving the 5% water behind. THC doesn't dissolve in water, so you can just remove the "goo," which will contain just the water-soluble components. The THC is in the oily part.

Thank you Dr. Johnson. An organic chemist told me to remove the water for better results. He told me how to but not the why I should. I did not do it because it involved 2 extra steps before main process.

Hay dan just let the water evaporate on its own it’s a little slower than everclear but it does evaporate. Lol

You can add a chemical drying agent like quicklime (CaO, calcium oxide) to chemically bind the last of the water. I have thought about doing that, but since water is just 5%, I have never bothered. When I have evaporated off Everclear before I ended up with a brown sticky sediment with a layer of water over the top that I could just pour off. Then it's ready for oil. Or you can just separate the water from the oil later like you are going to do.
