What are the 1st signs of accidental pollination?

Have pistils drawing up early & I suspect it could be from a hermie somewhere in my garden. This is an auto, about halfway thru flowering now, but this started nearly 2 weeks ago. It's nowhere near being ready. The pistils don't turn brown, they just shrivel up & there's nothing left but big fat swollen calyxes with no pistils or only a few small ones left. It started on the top of the plant & has worked it's way down.

Has anyone experienced this?
 
swollen calyx rings a few alarm bells if its way too ealy, maybe get a toothpick and see if you can poke one open and see if there's anything going on inside. (I don't know how long it takes for seeds to fully form even if they're not viable)
 
Thanks guys. I plucked some of them & opened them up & there is a tiny green seed at the very bottom of each one it seems. It has to be a seed because it's kinda hard even tho it's green. I'm going to get my microscope out & post some pics.

Question is, what to do now? I have autos in coco that just got their 1st couple of pistils in the last few days. I wonder how early they can be pollinated?

I have not found any nanners yet but they must be there. So, what is the best course of action? How do I rid the grow room of pollen?

I'm going to do some reading on it but any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys

Pistils started to wither about 2 weeks ago & this is how tiny the seeds are still.

A few seeds never hurt anything :) Buds are still potent even if they've got some seeds! You're being really on top of it.

You could let them develop and keep them, or you could pick them off as you see them to help the plant focus on the rest of the buds. It does look like those might be seeds. Has it been hot? Are they appearing on the buds that are closest to the light? Have there been any weird light cycles or possibly an indicator light or light leak during their dark period?

If you haven't seen a single banana or pollen sac I honestly wouldn't worry too much about pollen, as it doesn't seem like you had a bunch of pollen burst anywhere. Once pollen gets dried out it's definitely a lot less effective.

To your question about pollination, they can be pollinated from their very first pistils, but are most likely to be pollinated a few weeks into the flowering stage. I doubt your young ones are affected much if at all.
 
I would love to keep the plant as it is a west coast og(auto) & has begun to frost up in that very beautiful way that they're known for. The seeds don't bother me as I was raised up on bag weed lol. I truly believe she will still be worth the effort I just didn't want to spread it to the others if I could help it. All of my autos stay out at night & are sometimes exposed to a little light. I put my photos in dark boxes at lights out.

I actually was looking for bananas only, I guess I didn't realize there are 2 different things to watch for...the nanners & also pollen sacs. I have other plants in late flower that have no pistil issues at all, only this one entire plant.

I posted a pic of this plant on a thread here on 5/6 & the pistils started disappearing within a few days of that post so I guess that's when it happened? That pollen would be useless by now then???

Have had a little heat problem but nothing real bad. Topping out at 86 during the hottest few hours of the day on some days, not all the time. This plant did have root rot & still has a certain amount of brown roots & weird leaf growth, like some leaves that curl under & rusty spots...same stuff I've had on other plants with root rot.

the pollen can stay alive for a few days, maybe a week in good conditions but after say two weeks all the pollen has dried out and is no longer fertile. btw i think a banana is just a young pollen sack :)
 
It's possible that stress caused it to herm, but it could also be the genetics. Sometimes you aren't able to do anything to prevent a plant from herming :) I agree if the pollination happened on 5/6 it's pretty unlikely to be sticking around now :)
