I agree with the dock, keep it simple, especially with soil. Get a good one, some type of super soil, like kind soil( or one that's maybe a little kinder on the wallet!) Get some organic base nutrients for late in the grow, when the super soil gets depleted( salt based Nutes will kill off the beneficial soil microbes you want with soil).
Then, start a worm bin.
The best supplement you can get for soil, is earth worm castings, that you can farm yourself, from kitchen scraps that you were going to have to pay to have sent to a land fill.
Uncle Jims worm farm has good info, and sells good composting worms.
Check out the thread Paracacelsus has going" Going full tilt, no till" he has a lot of good links posted to info on growing in soil. Also Nebulas tutorials on soil growing. I have a little bit on my home thread," Sitting on some organic fertilizer, or my plants have my back".
Basically, if you keep feeding the soil good organic matter, all the tiny little life forms that live in it, will stay healthy and happy on there own, and keep your plants happy, and producing some really nice weed. Happy growing!
