weird question about leaves

I have a weired question do different leaves controll were the light energy gos? I ask this because if defoleing helps increase bud size but cutting off leaves that bring in energy and co2 how does takeing away energy and co2 make the buds grow bigger or is it specific leaves?
 
Should have really posted this in your previous thread as its related.

The leaves themselves do not control where nutrients go, they act like a source and direct energy to the phloem. The phloem is an active multidirectional system that contains sap rich in sugars. The phloem typically directs sap to the nearest sink location, allowing short distances for the sap to travel. Sap can travel at speeds up to 200cm per hour, so not very fast.
 
So why would anyone do any major defoliation. I've never understood it. Hear that it is to expose bud sites but that can usually be done just by tucking the leaves under.
 
Why would anyone cut the majority of their leaves off? That is what I don't understand. What advantages do they gain?

TBH it's mostly for organizing your plant, like a bonsai tree. There are benefits since you as a gardener are able to help the plant directly. When you clear up the foliage you can see your plant's structure better.

And it's often the minority of leaves, for as cutting a majority would kill the plant.
