water softeners

my water went up a bunch of ppm its definitely hard ,so I was looking at reverse osmosses and I came across this https://www.lowes.com/pd/A-O-Smith-Whole-House-Salt-Free-Water-Descaler/1000559543 has anyone ever used one of these I would really rather use something like this instead of wasting so much water with RO

All this is is a (6 year) carbon filter, it is not a softener (which uses salt and corrodes pipes) It will make the water smell and taste better,,,

its supposed to be a descaler and thats what I need I looked at an electric one but it didnt clean enough

This carbon filtration system will lower your ppm and be a much cheaper option than RO.
Just make sure your gpg are with in spec (>25gpg).
