I have a small basement room with three plain walls made of concrete, with a wooden door. Ceiling has 1 1/2†thick foam insulation board, cement floor. I want to create a custom DWC room, using a gravity system.
My question is: what should I paint/cover my walls/ceiling/floor with that would make this room as great for growing as possible?
My recommendations would be.
Get a bucket of drywall compound (mud), the size of which will depend on the square footage of the concrete walls, then using a flooring trowel put a few coats of mud on the concrete walls allowing a day between coats for the mud to dry out, building up the thickness of the mud to quickly will cause cracks to form in the mud.
The reason for this step is to make the concrete walls as smooth as drywall, smooth walls when properly painted are more reflective and smooth walls will save you money on how much paint you will need to buy.
For painting the walls I prefer white, some prefer silver, but white has excellent reflectivity and looks better and is easy to clean.
Don't buy cheap big box store paint, go to a paint store and buy a mid priced white base, good paint will go up easy and resist mold, with cheap paint you will use more paint per square foot to get good coverage and it commonly lacks mold resistance.
As for the floor, again good paint but use a paint designed for shop floors, commonly sold as an epoxy floor paint and you can get that in white.
The reason you should paint the floors is because there will be spills and what have you and you want a surface that is easy to sweep clean or if needed mop up easy, bare concrete will not provide that.
Once you have the paint work done get back with me and we can come up with hat you should do for electrical.
