Ventilation question

I just recently moved to a taller tent. I have a question about ventilation. I went from a 100 watt LED to a 300 watt LED. Running a 4 in carbon filter and a small 6 in fan in the tent. During the veg stage I had the lower vents opened. Now that I've moved to the flower stage how do I vent this tent without letting light in? Is there a way to keep the lower vents open and at the same time keep the light out? How is it done?

I just leave them open, never been a problem. Imo the light leak causing issues thing is overblown. If you really want to work at blocking light, install an 8 inch pipe in a lower vent hole, then lightly pack it with aquarium filter fluff or similar. Most of the light will be blocked.

Yep i've done what Ckbrew has done during warmer grows casts a tiny amount of light. And if your in a room that's used several times a day put a note on the door saying " don't turn light on upon entry " LOL i'm older now and i gotta leave notes all over ( but then again could be the 40+yrs of smoking weed :o) no really i've not had any issues with hermi from a little vent open, also you could aim a fan at that vent on the outside.

Yep, thats what I use too. I I’m using a white filter fabric to keep bugs and airborne stuff out, but you could use black fabric too to absorb light and prevent reflection.

Humm, okay. So from your experience if I leave the vent open AWAY from the window (window has a closed shade on it) a few hours of defused light shouldn't be that much of an issue? I'm moving from growing autos to photos. So now it becomes an issue. I live by myself so it's not an issue to stay out of the grow room during sleepy time hours. Thank you for your comments. I appreciate that!

Don't worry about it. As long as the ambient light wherever you have your tent is no brighter than the moon you have nothing to worry about. If you really want to see how much light leak you get on lights off crack a space on your zipper and see how dark it is.

I use flex duct to extend the vent opening about 18" and create a 90 degree bend in the ducting. The ducting lays on the floor and extends about 18". The bend takes care of the light issues. I've vented my grow tents this way for several grows. No light issues at all.

Since I have my fan duct on top of my tent, I just extend the duct ports at the bottom of the tent. I crimp the inner duct a little and have it face in a downwards angle. Never had an issue.
