Veg to flow light increase?

Hello everyone.
I have a 400 watt mh in veg and a 600hps in flower. I have been moving the 600 up a lot to keep the plant from stressing but they just stretch bad and new genetics I have had alot of Hermes. I'm wondering is it better to keep the light at the right hight and just hit the dimmer? How long does it take to acclimate to get the light full strength? I wondering what you all do and any help would be wonderful. Thanks

they more you move the light the more the plants will try to reach that light... the first 3 weeks of flower the plants stretch hard mine gained close to two feet in the last 3 weeks they maybe have grown 4 inches ? Also moving the light up everyday will stress the plants probaly one of the reasons the hermied on you.. light should be between 15-18 inches theres a chart on the website about light hieght did you not follow it by moving the light constantly and the plants never haveing a moment to adjust and bask in the light you stressed them becaUSE THEY KEPT HAVING TO SAY WE GOTTA MOVE TOWARDS THE LIGHT OVER AND OVER AND OVER... what is your light at????

I keep the main canopy at 17" now a couple of taller colas are closer. In the past when I put them into flower I kept the light where it was supposed to be and the jump in light is what I assume made them hermi. So this past run I lifted the light and moved them closer to ths light every day. Some of Them messed up too. So should I turn down the ballast to 75% When I put them in the flower tent so it's a little closer to 400watt? I just seen them yellow out witch I assume is light stress? Thanks for the help. P.S. I do go off the chart. I love this site I just never seen anything regarding this subject.

Nebula has a fantastic tutorial on light and distances from plant after reading it I purchased a light meter and my light was to close so I adjusted it up so the closest kola was getting less than 85,000 lux . it has made a huge difference. moving your light without knowing how much usable light plant is getting may be your problem .ALso how old is your hps bulb mine only lasts about a year

I just put a new bulb in its about a month old. I always try to stay on top of everything. I put alot of time money and love into my girls so I always try to keep everything at the best they can be. I get amazing results do to I've done this for a while and have made allot of mistakes. This last time was new genetics but I still think that is a big jump and I can see the leaves are never happy when they get under the bigger bulb for a week or 2. I really like what you wrote though and I think that is my next step. Thanks for your 2.
