Vacuum Storage

Since I got bit by the bug I can't stop growing different strains and is apparent that I will have a surplus that needs to be stored long-term so I decided to guinea pig an ounce of NorthernLights that has already been cured. Supposedly you can go several years and still keep the better part of the potency.

My first test was to remove all the air & humidity from a mason jar which worked well, then I decide to boil water at room temperature which it easily did with my oversized vacuum pump, then lastly I removed all the air from my already cured jar leaving just enough to maintain 62% humidity.

Anybody else ever use the much simpler store-bought vacuum systems?

well i often use the food saver to safely move small amounts of weed from one place to another, you just place it inside the bag and press a button but the buds get compacted a bit, but in the past ive recived pounds over mail and suitecases in buses. i dont know about the jars but weed will keep very fresh until you take it out of the vacuum
 
I don’t know the answer, but wouldn’t it work the same as canning fruits and vegetables? Boiling the jars,place top on and cooling it down causing a vacuum to occur ?
As long as the seal held. It might b to much heat for the weed tho,just spitballing 😁
 
I've seen that attachment in use and works really good, just drop a standard lid on the jar, use the vacuum cap with either a tabletop or a battery operated vacuum pump and it sucks out the air to where the lid is sealed just like it came out of a hot water canning bath.

I did notice they are 2 different sizes (wide and regular)

Though there is a bit of info online about vacuum sealing cannabis there are not a lot of details. I've seen people use cheap $30 foodsavers to expensive $10,000 nitrogen purge units.

I guess my real question was to people who have actually used this method and was it worth it? but my biggest question was the amount of vacuum to use?

Foodsavers generally pull 20" of Hg which is not a whole lot (234,000 microns) but gets out most of the residual air, my pump can pull 29.9" of Hg or 500 microns. foodsavers can achieve a 158F boiling point where mine can boil (sublimate) ice at minus -12F.

The pump system I use is designed to remove all the air and boil the water out of an air-conditioning system which is why I decided to only draw it down enough to leave 62% humidity in the jar which means I have to sacrifice a hygrometer for every jar.

For grins, I may have to experiment with accelerated vacuum curing on my next batch by putting in some wet buds and pumping out all the moisture until it stabilizes at 62%.

Eh, bit out of mine too but I was able to extract the relevant parts. All of a sudden I'm wishing I actually took organic chem in college...
