Trying my 6th Outdoor Grow in the Great White North

Didn’t wanna highjack Farmbuck’s thread. Take a gander at his, and my recent post re: Japanese beetles for some history.
6 years trying to grow outdoors here … bud rot, WPM, bugs galore, failure to mature before 1st frost .., you name it , y’all know what I mean. Take a look at my previous posts to see how I’ve tried to grow here.

So picking up on my most recent efforts:
Some pics of my Georgia mint after 3rd defol and Lilly popping. Don’t wanna cause a big kerfuffle (ask a Canadian), but a couple of questions for the forum:

Lollipop too much? (Did it until I could see the sun penetrating to the bottom of each cola)

What about those defol efforts? Too much? Too little? Bear in mind I live in one of the coldest capital cities in the world, but our summers are brutal! Take a look at weather for Ottawa.

6 years have taught me to have a backup plan. This year an assortment of autos, some in an outdoor greenhouse, some outdoors, some in a 4x4 indoors under a pair of TS1000’s. Some topped once and LST’d, some LST’d only . Interesting comparison between greenhouse and tent … former way stretchier, if that’s a word. As soon as I move one from tent to greenhouse, she begins to stretch big time. Think the fabric of the greenhouses may be blocking some rays.

Hey all … just a quick update.

Georgia mint doing well outdoors, despite a few environmental challenges since transplant at the end of May. Beetles remain, but so far harmless enuf. Stretch done and buds stacking with impressive density. Feeding GH trio bloom formulation when dry, no control over nature.

Started a separate thread describing a defoliation experiment.

Thanks for the suggestion she might be a late-blooming auto. Couldn’t figure why she went into flower before the solstice. If I can take her to the finish line she’ll be a red ribbon winner auto for sure.

Greenhouse grow kinda disappointing thus far, but a valuable learning experience nonetheless. Definitely a huge difference between topped and non-topped. Former shorter, bushier, but still stretchier than I’d like. Non-topped are giants, with internodal spacing up to 10”! Bummer. Not expecting much of a yield and thinking about culling the herd of a few. Tried moving them closer to the sun, but 18” in 93 million miles didn’t seem to help much.

Backup plan on track … about 2 weeks into flower, much more compact overall than outdoor girls. Will defoliate in a week or so, particularly the two you can see in the front. Environment seems good, so no concerns at this point

Aaarrgghh! I do believe the centrepiece of this summer’s attempt has re-vegged! It’s now become my 2024 shits and giggles grow.
Recall I thought I had bought a Northern Lights auto seed, but she hadn’t even begun to flower after 3 and a half months indoors. So I transplanted on 31 May, and she started to flower about a week later, I thought maybe due to transplant shock. Or maybe just a really late bloomer for an auto.
Then she started getting real bushy … hundreds of single leaves coming out of the stalled bud sites.
So I guess they sent me a photoperiod instead.

My first experience with re-veg, and I have a few questions:
- can you confirm this is indeed a case of re-veg?
- how do I try and salvage her? Feed her as if in aggressive veg? What about all those single leaves? Do I defoliate (worried about WPM)
- will she go back into flower when there is less than 12 hours of sunlight … if so will the flowering process be accelerated or slowed down compared to a photo that has not re-vegged
- I live in Canada … how do you grow a photo outdoors if mother nature’s flip is in September and you’re looking at 8-12 weeks of flower time? I can’t see a harvest on New Year’s Day happening around here.

on a positive note, girls in the greenhouse and on deck doing OK. All autos, primarily AK 47s. Wish I had topped them all. Some buds are developing a lovely purple colour. Backup plan indoors on track
