Should i topp these at the second node or wait for the third also when i do it do i just use scissors and cut just above the split? they are 12 days old!

So do i top them here? also do i try to leave the two little pistil looking things in tact and just trim the stem?

Is the reason for topping just if you can't grow it tall. because my tent i would be able to get it to almost 6ft
 
Yes that's where u top it. Topping does keep the plant shorter and bushy but it also increases yield. You should wait for a few more replys before topping, there are other methods and I'm a Newby grower myself. Get some more imput.
 
I top mine about that size and age, I have never had any issues from it. I do it because I only want to veg for about 30 days then flip to 12/12 so I try to get the most horizontal growth in that time.
 
Wait until there are six nodes, then cut it above the third node. If You cut the plant too early, it could stress it slowing the growth, or worse. I just use the LST method because I have not had much luck with topping the plants. They, almost always, grew un-symmetrically, one branch grew and the other would be 'stunted', so I do the training and have had good results.
