I thought it might be fun for the experienced guys to just throw some tips out there for us newbies here is my first one.
I myself being a new grower figured out something extremely important, when flowering water your plants every other day very important to get high yield.
 
Sorry not trying to burst your bubble but that is not a very good tip.

Watering should only be done when the medium is completely dry. If you just water every 2 days root issues will soon follow your watering habits.

There a million factors to water usage as well for there to be a general schedule. Pot size, plant size, RH, Temp, lights and hungriness of said plant growing.

For example im in 7 gallon pots with an air RH of 37.5 %.

It takes 4 or 5 days inbetween each watering to become truly dry and ready for more. If my RH was higher say 60% it would be more like 6 or 7 days inbetween each watering due to less evaporation.

Its best to water when needed and not on a schedule.
 
Use fabric pots - use good seeds with good DNA buy what you need, either more CBD, THC -- start with autoflowers, you'll never grow anything else - don't use Miracle Grow - always pH balance your water - don't drown your seedlings..
I have more tricks - specifically - bought me some 'Foliar Essence' - foliar misting once a week within the first hour of light, stomatas are most receptive then.
I have many more ...........
 
Canuck147 I'm on the other side of the camp and enjoy growing photoperiods. You can control every aspect of vegging including sampling various pruning techniques. Also, you can clone photos.

Never grown autos but I'm a fan. Happy to see breeding going so well in the industry. What do you think about photoperiods being stronger/more potent than autoflowers if you have the exact strain (i.e. OG Kush auto fem seeds VS. OG Kush feminized photoperiod seeds) ?

Best advice is for everyone to read the main GWE page, every single article, and try growing yourself in real life before you ever join a cannabis growing forum.
 
Some of my RANDOM hacks:
1. Get graduated oral syringes for measuring nutes : http://a.co/04UZAV5
2. If you use LEDs get bubble levels and attach them : http://a.co/dEfCzJQ
3. If you use Bamboo sticks get the long ones and cut them with a PVC pipe cutter. Smooth cuts, with no wiggling (can be cut in place) http://a.co/4yvRT0N
4. Fabric pots make great intake filters
5. If your tent walls suck in against your plants, use your new PVC pipe cutter and build a PVC frame, hang it from top of tent at plant height.

I would say that it depends on your medium. Soil and Coco are very different with regard to watering - especially Coco with a high % of Perlite. I pretty much water on a schedule and my Coco never gets even a little, much less completely dry!
In Soil, I agree with what you ( UrbZ ) said.
 
I knew I was forgetting something in there. Medium differences.

But still if your coco for what ever reason is still soaking wet on top one day after watering you wouldn't water again. Same watering rules apply to both soil and coco I feel. The only difference is how fast one dries out compared to the other and coco can stay a little more moist.

Well, my coco is always wet on top... the big difference between soil and coco is actually how they hold on to air. Coco/Perlite mix at approx 50/50 retains enough air for roots regardless of how much water you put in it. So, yes, I water everyday even when its wet on top because they are literally on a schedule - they don't need to sit in nutes on non-nute days and they need their nutes on nute days, so I water regardless. If overwatering my medium was possible my plants would be dead.
That said, I agree that everyone should pay attention to their plants and consider medium and all the other factors you mentioned. I know what my medium can do and have worked out my strategy in close consultation with my plants.
 
Ive never grown it so cannot say myself firsthand. It makes since though since it is more like hydro.

It just seems a bit confusing to me because every help post you see all the coco guys still tell people to let it dry out some even if they are in coco. Maybe the amount of perlite you add changes that. But it seems there is more and more contradictory stuff posted everyday about the same situations.
 
All I can say for sure is that I cannot over-water my medium - at times, it felt like I was trying to do so, and the plants have always been happy. There is definitely confusion and disagreement and it is not required to water as frequently as I do... but it is one of the main benefits of growing in coco. Since the medium retains O2, you can water to your hearts delight and the plants always have everything they could ask for. That is why it is more like Hydro, and that is how you can get such rapid growth in Coco.
 
Yes. I have each light on 4 ratchet hangers and when I adjust up and down I want to make sure they remain level. Easier to get bubble levels and attach them than use a bullet level that could fall and injure your plants
 
I’ve always watered after testing with my finger to first knuckle.
Ph is most important to growing good,6.0-6.5 in soil less in core
dont tell anyone!!!!!!!!!! What u are doing or where.

Just to clarify my tip my medium is fox farms ocean/frog blend. My roots have filled a 7 gallon pot, personally I have found that the plants can handle a watering every other day. I'm at day 40 and my buds are really respond well to this type of watering and I'm not letting it get too dry. I have a high end medical grower/ gardening guru who happily gives me advice and I'm basing it on his advice.
 
Hey I think that is very interesting and not bad advice to follow as long as you have a grasp on the other basics too. It sounds like you do, but if a newb stumbled upon this thread it wouldn't mean that watering every other day would benefit them.
In bloom when the bucket it full of roots, and if I'm in summertime, I might have to water everyday!

I chose to model a successful grower friend as well so it seems to be working out for us. Cheers!
 
Campesino I got 2- 300watt leds just hanging on the sides of my plants, an a 315cmh on top, you reckon my leds will work hanging sideways or pointing up instead of down, cause my plant is to big for my tent, I didn't train this girl.
Thanks, I've done that before, and it did seem to help the buds a good bit.
