Tincture question

I need to make a post that I can point to instead of writing this all the time, lol. The cannabis needs to be decarboxylated before you combine it. If you dont have a " Nova" my avatar will give you a basic time/heat formula. I put the now decarboxylated cannabis and everclear in the freezer seperately an hour before I combine them.Once combined I let them sit anywhere from 2-3 hours to overnight with a shake whenever I think of it. .Then I actually strain them in the freezer (I have a large upright) with a coffee filter in a strainer. The resulting liquid is golden yellow. I put that in a pyrex baking dish and fan dry to 1/4 to 1/6 total liquid volume. I then put it into a pan and bring it to a boil for 5 minutes just to make sure my fan didnt blow anything nasty in there and its sterile or close to it.

The resulting liquid looks something like these pics depending on how much and how well I did, ha. Once its cooled after the 5 minute boil I add about 1/3 the volume of glycerin and a little food grade flavoring. Then bottle it. I use 1 and 2 ounce bottles then I store in the freezer. Ive found the glycerin helps it to not stick to the sides of the eyedropper and bottle sides as much.

Jimmy, I LOVE that site, and that's where I learned to make tincture. I just followed the directions she gives, covered the buds till there was Everclear above them, stuck the jars in the freezer and shook em once or twice a day. One tincture I took out and strained after a week, and others I've left longer.

I don't think you need to evaporate alcohol unless you use to much, so don't!! You just want the buds entirely immersed in alcohol. I use Everclear 190.

Dutchman1 I cover my pan with cheesecloth and tape it down when I put the tincture under the fan. Of course you may not have as much cat hair floating around your house as I do...
 
The Nova or Lift is something else that I really love. I could live without my dab rig, but I could not live without the Nova.

If I may, I'd like to share a couple of modifications I employ to make tincture w/ Everclear. 8 oz. of the EC in pint mason jar, place in freezer. Separately, for now, 11-13 gr. decarbed cannabis ( just what my Nova holds ) that I place into a MaxLoom 250 Micron, 4.5 x2.5 inch, rosin extraction bag, which I stuff open end first into a second bag. Into the freezer , After 24hr. I combine and shake vigorously for two minutes and replace in freezer, laying horizontal. I do 4 or 5 more times over the course of a day, then open up and suspend bag across mouth of jar with thin metal skewer and let bag drip 'til dry. I never strain with this technique and never have plant material in my tinc. The trichome husks settle out of solution on the bottom and give me no problem as I pipette off into dropper bottle. The straining was giving me a beating. Thanks
 
quirk Let's see if I got this right: you put the rosin bag w/ decarbed bud inside another rosin extraction bag? Then you put those two bags in the jar of EC? Fascinating!! So that's how you strain!!! Kinda like combining dry ice technique with EC and the freezer.

How do 11-13 grams fit in the rosin bag? Is it a real tight fit? Do you do a second wash?

Why do you use 250 micron instead of a 90?

Does your tincture come out yellow?

How was straining giving you a beating?? I'm going to be doing some quick washes so I can make THC juice for my vape pen, and I'd like try your method. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
 
alltatup 11-13gr fit just fine. I put in whole bud. No 2nd wash. The 250 micron/60 mesh bags seem to retain all plant material except the tric husks. Let me add that I use the Source Extractor to reduce volume by half and reclaim the Everclear. I've never reduced to oil or goo so can't speak to that process. quirk Oh man, that sounds fantastic! AND, I just ordered the Source, it should be here by the end of the week. I'm so excited I just can't wait!! I'll bet you've read Ichiban's articles on making concentrates? I can't sleep I'm so excited!!!

The pics are fantastic, AND I have the Nova as well!! (Another indispensible machine.) I see that you really don't handle the bud much at all, so no breakage of membranes, right?

Why don't you do a second wash? There's really no good stuff left?

After I got the Nova in November, I started making tincture and fell totally in love with it. Tincture high is far and away my favorite high; I find it extremely therapeutic and long-lasting. Just got the Rubi vape pen for oils and liquids, so as soon as Source gets here, I'm making some concentrate for the pen. My next batch of tincture: I'll use your method and reduce the volume like you do. I'll bet it's exquisite.

alltatup I don't do a 2nd wash because I ingest the bud used for extraction. Every night, 2 hrs. before I turn in, I mix 2ml tinc w/ .5gr stripped bud in cup of yogurt. It's been a game changer for me.

Very cool, quirk. I also started eating leaves (trimmed during flower) last Fall and had some incredible experiences. But I got so high that I only do that on special occasions. May I ask, How has it affected you?

My overall health has improved in various ways from taking the tincture daily.
 
Quirk I have been following alone I am just getting into tinctures and oils I have a nova for decarbing , I eat some form of cannabis every night for pain .so my question is eating the bud how potent is it after the 1st wash? would it affect you with out the tincture ? ATU I'm still eating those leafy omelets but now I add onion ,garlic leafs and asparagus for an all around tasty breakfast
 
oldjarhead100 You will get a " lesser effect or benefit" of all cannabinoids remaining in stripped material. I also decarb the material after I press for rosin and those rascals are still plenty psychoactive. If I started my day off with one of your omelets, I'd never make it to the golf course!

alltatup I have never slept better or woke up feeling so relaxed and with such a sense of well being. No sleep apnea, insomnia, depression, no 4-6 trips to the bathroom every night and no more daily joint pain and muscle aches. I have not felt this good or slept this well since I was 60 years old. Cannabinoid pharmacology will be huge.
