So what was the issue with your choice of soil?
I used NLS’s living soil recipe (they have 2 recipes, the other being super soil) with my base organic potting soil Black Gold and did appear to be a problem. Is Pro Mix not a base soil?

I'm not positive if pro mix is a good base soil or not but I can assure you I won't be using it again to make living soil.

Not sure if you have an ACE Hardware nearby but when I searched a bunch of local stores I came across Black Gold organic potting soil. They have a US and Canada branch. Very good stuff. They have a full line of products. It’s what I used with NLS.

Rest of the garden is doing alright, cat grass is kicking ass. The cats have destroyed the patch in the metal container a few times so I started the second batch in the round pot

Promix is Peat with Mycorizi and perlite , I used as a potting mix one year and the roots it grew were incredibly long and healthy , I add it to my soil every year
