Time to harvest Autos?

Hello GWE Community,

I'm looking for some advice on my first grow. It's been a learning experience all around and lots of things to improve on for next time.

I've been simultaneously growing 2 Auto Blue Diesels and 2 Photo Acapulco Gold. Both are from Sonoma Seeds, they advertise the flowering time as being 7-8 weeks on the BD and 8-9 weeks on the AG. I know the flowering times they claim are a rough estimate at best.

The plants are in a 60”x60”x80" Tent under 2 Phlizon 1000W COB LED lights (actual draw 250w per light).
Light cycle has been 18/6 - I've switched to 12/12 as of this evening.
They are in 5 gallon fabric pots with soil/perlite and watered to run off in accordance with GWE's guide.
Nutrients are GH Flora Series performance pack, following Nebula's recipe and alternating nutrients and PH'd water.

I made some rookie mistakes early on and wasn't watering to run off or monitoring PH closely enough. I suspect this led to a nutrient build up and low root PH and calcium lockout. (See past thread https://forum.growweedeasy.com/forum...pots-on-leaves). I learned, flushed and corrected that but by that time the BDs were well into flowering and had suffered a lot of leaf damage. They have continued to flower quite nicely, and some of the newer leaves are fine but the majority are severely discolored and dying. The AGs were and continue to be in Veg and haven't really shown any ill effects.

I've been trying to use the trichrome method to determine when to harvest the BD. My jewelers loupe isn't of great quality, but I've been checking them every few days. The trichrome heads still appear to be mostly clear to my untrained eye. These plants are now 9 weeks into flowering and there does not seem to be much happening with the plants anymore. I'm wondering if possibly the trichromes may never change due to the lack of healthy leaves to feed/mature the buds? In anticipation of harvest I stopped giving them any nutrients 3 weeks ago (thinking I'd have harvest a week or so later) but the trichromes don't seem to be changing. I've talked myself out of harvesting for the last 2 weeks.

To complicate things, the 2 AG photos are both well above 4 feet tall and I expect that as they go into flowering they will outgrow my tent, which is where they'll have to stay. I switched the light cycle to 12-12 this evening as I feel I have to put these into flowering due to space constraints. I fully intended on harvesting the BDs tonight, but I reluctantly put them back into the tent even if I know the 12-12 light cycle isn't ideal for autos.

At this point I'm not sure what to do and would appreciate any advice that can be provided. The pics are of the Autos which I'm torn on whether or not to harvest.

I doubt there is a single farmer here that wouldn't be proud to have plants like that in their grow. Very nice work. As far as harvest, I am sure you won't be disappointed if you go anytime from here on out. Looks like the damned Matterhorn.

Yes sir that is outstanding and i have had late in flower autos in the same tent for 2-3wks because i had to flip the tent they were in. I found no issues for that time frame. Your auto is killer and i would be tickled silly to have that in my tent. Chop away she looks ready. :)

B-E-A-YOOTIFUL!
Something mere mortals can only aspire to!

I'm hoping to start an auto in the next little while, but have never tried one, and you have set the bar pretty high, my friend! I'm excited now!
Any problems, I might ask...
"What would Nepisiguit do?"

You have a fabulous plant. Trichomes are tricky to judge and sometimes they stay milky for a long time. You can harvest this at any time or, do a partial harvest and let a few buds stay longer and then compare them after aging.

Thanks again for the positive feedback everyone. This site has been a fantastic resource for getting me through my first grow. The answer to the question "What would Nepisiguit do?" is quite simple - read up on it and ask questions on www.growweedeasy.com.

I harvested these two autos 6 days ago, currently curing in mason jars. I generally smoke AAA+ dispensary bud and think I'm going to be happy with the quality and the yield. Rough estimate is probably 6 ounces off those 2 plants.

Anxious to see how the 2 photo Acapulco golds turn out. 55" and 57" already before the flowering stretch.

Already looking forward to my second grow. I was pretty set on doing 2 astro boy and 2 white widow photos for my next attempt. But with the yield from these autos, and the shorter turnaround I may reconsider.
