This has been bothering me

So, I am relatively new to growing. And I have a friend who has done these two methods of “helping” his plant(s) get light. The first light he used was Christmas with a fan and an actual grow light. (I may be wrong but I feel like that would be too hot). Then the second time he had a fan again but put a grow light with an LED nightlight (a powerful children’s one). I’m just not quite sure how either of those are working for him. But he SWEARS by it. Any thoughts because this is driving my insane for some reason.

Little Confused as to what you mean by Christmas with a fan. And had a fan again...?

A nightlight by no means will ever grow a plant. Guaranteed. He could be using his as accent lighting but it's probably really not helping much.

to me it seems like he is just using these for extra light. If you mean he's growing with Christmas lights and or a night light only. I doubt he's growing much.

Even's extra lighting both those options are very minimum to help

When I said Christmas lights with a fan. I mean he’s using a grow light, Christmas lights, then uses a fan to keep it cooler

But you’re probably right about the extra light. I guess I just assumed it would be way too hot, especially since it’s in a closet.

I doubt those being added will do anything. I canot see christmas lights nor a nightlight putting of more than a handful of par/lux. They would probably have to be touching the plant to even start to help. And probably neither are near the correct spectrum of light to grow.

Okay so I’m getting back. He has a 24 watt fluorescent light above the plant. Then on the other side (roughly 3 feet away) on the wall are the Christmas lights. Then he has a fan (one of the flat fans) blowing upwards.

When he was using the nightlight he got a red and purple one and put it on the wall on the other side. Then added the same light above and put the fan on medium.

I'm sorry, but I'm having a seriously hard time believing x-mas lights or a children's LED nightlight (no matter how "powerful" it is) can in any way grow or even "help" grow a weed plant. I believe the plants were getting their actual light from the other grow lights your friend was using. But x-mas lights or a nightlight to grow or help the growth? Umm sorry, nope.

I’m also having a hard time believing him too! He says it’s just for extra light. But even so I feel like it probably isn’t doing much.

I'm with D.A.S.S.69 That set up=monsters! Special ingredient...dirty brick bagseed! Sorry for that Smw420. Tell your buddy to hang around GWE and he'll probably be able to boast or be proud, or whatever he's trying to do by telling you this info of his grow w/o the crazy claims

The Xmas lights r 3 feet away!?!?!?!? Dude your friend is full of shit u guys should just do ur selfs a favor and upgrade ur lighting

Tell him to stop. The amount of umols (photons) released by the xmas lights isn't enough for a plant to grow. It looks bright to us, but to the plant its nothing.

Dood it all depends on the spectrum. Maybe the same Chinese factory that makes both got the bins of LEDs mixed up and they work. Which means someone is getting shiitty grow lights on Amazon right now.
