The ghost of thanksgiving past, turkey day disasters

Some years ago, back when I was still married took the wife and kids to her parents for diner. Everything was luvly, the turkey came out of the over nicely browned laying in that bed of stuffing. But when it was cut into it was raw inside, seems Moma had pulled the bird out of the freezer and popped it into the hot oven that morning still frozen.

And if thats not enuf heres another, I wasn't there but a friend picked up a frozen apple pie (from braumes, good pie I will be baking one in a bit) forgot to cook it and to try to get it cooked in time cranked the heat to 600*F. His thought was to cook it faster at the higher temp. As you can guess it came out burned on the outside and still frozen on the inside.

Hope nothing like this happens to your turkey day, enjoy, happy thanksgiving all y'all.

Spent the days at someone's old farmstead in La Grange, Texas. Whatever baby incubator contraption Mom found to cook the turkey did not work. Her deal for the weekend was cooking for me, Dad, and brother. Losing the turkey made a bad day for Mom. Whilst she fretted in the kitchen, this little 13 year old got to chain saw down a tree. It might be the single manliest thing I have ever done. Considering age, physique, and general fortitude.
Basic training, 1990. We were initially told we would have a couple days off for Thanksgiving to see family. What with Desert Shield just around the corner, we had to get in our class A's to watch James Brown do a community service concert for whatever crime he committed, instead. Wavy Gravy was there but I don't know their legal status. I have no memory of turkey.

I know someone that on a rainy day chose to deep fry the turkey inside the garage. Just open the door, right, but there must have been some water inside the bird. After the fire men all left he said it was not a good idea to try it inside, you think?
