Hello all!

My first original post here on GWE and I hope for a long stay.

I've done a few small grows over the years but nothing really "serious" so I suppose I'm at "well researched noobie" level, lol.

I'm a 52 yr old widower. My wife passed away last year with Uterine Cancer that metastasized to her lungs and brain, she was only 48. We had been dealing with some issues that had been cropping up with me, memory, attention, balance, walking etc. and a couple of months after her passing I was diagnosed with a Parkinson's Spectrum condition, probable Lewy Bodies Disease, basically a combination of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. I apologize now for any "wandering off" or nonsensical posts that may happen.

Thanks to smoking I have pretty much eliminated all pain killers, occasionally I'll have intense flair ups that require me to use them but nothing like the 5 different ones they had me on. It has also helped with my tremors and have allowed me to stay on lower levels of Dopamine for a longer period of time. Not to mention insomnia and depression.

What has been an even greater benefit has been getting into growing as a hobby. It's been great, it gets me moving and thinking, sitting with my plants calms me and relieves stress and anxiety which has been pretty high over the last year.

I ran across GWE a while back while thinking about setting up a grow and I've been reading here ever since. What a great site and these seem one of the most friendly forums around, gratz to all of you :) and of course thanks to Nebula and Sirius for all of their work.

I went and got all my "upgrades", read that as anything other than the 2 Sterlite Tubs stacked on each other with a couple of small pots and a couple little CFL's , and after setting it all up in my room, I've decided to move the setup down to the basement some time soon, lol. I need a bit more room to move around in.

Anyways my current set-up is:

Closet for Veg/Mothers (CFL's until upgrade)
3x3x6 Tent
600w GalaxyHydro LED (~250 draw)
4" Exhaust and carbon filter (coming this week)
DIY DWC and Soil


Anyways I'm gonna go see about uploading pics and get this first Journal started.

I'm happy to be here and look forward to interacting with everyone!
 
hey ged, welcome to the forum, im sorry to hear about all that and im very glad cannabis is helping in so many ways, ill suscribe to check out your grow, remember to take some pics :) the site has a 2MB limit per picture, good luck man. this place is full of love so take it all in and spread it around

Very sorry for your loss .You are right about growing being a wonderful hobby ,kinda like your best friend, the more you communicate with them the better they respond.Your right again about it being the best medicine too. Strain - Death Star(?), Blue Dream(?), Northern Lights, White Widow

Northern Lights and White Widow by Nirvana, others of unknown origin.

The Death Star are very old seeds, like 10 years plus, it's possible they are mislabeled after all this time and a couple of moves, lol. The Blue Dream is a bag seed.

Oh just to explain whats what in this pic

Everything in the DWC is a clone of the Death Star Mom. The larger one on the right is the last of my "test" clones that I used to check the sex and run through the system to tune it a bit.

The big pot is the Blue Dream that will be a Mother.

Behind the big pot are a Blue Dream clone to test sex and a Death Star clone for a soil grow

On the milk crate to the left is another Death Star clone in soil, and the White Widow and Northern Lights which will be Mothers.

Thanks DAAS. You have much more confidence in me that I do at the moment! :)

I would say I'm pretty well researched but that's only half of it, getting the experience, and feel for my strains, dealing with stuff that pops up, I'm gonna need help, lol.

But we're gonna give it a hell of a try, and success or fail, it'll be good for me and something to build off of from there.

Slow but good day!

I had an order goof up through Seedsman and they got everything fixed hooked me up a little for the trouble, today. YAY Seedsman! Great bank and great people, Ruth is the Woman, lol. Also my fan and filter showed up today, so that's awesome.

Gave the kids a drink, and gave one a quick trim.

Also today got my TDS meter, which brings up a question. Say the nute mfg. says you should be at 800ppm. Is that including or in addition to your fresh water ppm? I don't recall ever seeing a clear answer to that anywhere.

Pics are a Sunday thing unless I need a diagnosis quick :)

Hey Ganja welcome very sorry for your loss, this is a great forum lots of very knowledgeable people and it looks like we are all about the same age , I use weed for nerve pain ,nothing else works and I've been on them all. looking forward to future posts . As Daas said it sounds like you know what your doing
 
Thank's DAAS. I'm still alive, lol, thanks for asking brother.

I've been "off" a lot this week, kinda comes with the LBD territory. I've got a neurologist appointment next month and I'm pretty sure we'll end up increasing my meds, esp. my Dopamine. Beyond just the general increase in symptoms I've started getting tremors in my left arm which is totally new. If nothing else with LBD everyday is an adventure, lol.

They really need to rename all of these Neurological Degenerative Diseases to "?", They literally know almost nothing, it's so strange.

You undergo countless tests and imaging and everything comes back clear. I already had an idea of what was going on which left me going to all of these tests hoping they'd find something wrong, because that would mean it wasn't a NDD.

Then you ask so what's the diagnosis and they say "I think Parkinson's Spectrum, possibly LBD" ummm, what? Can we test for that? "Sure, if you want we'll dissect your brain after you die and confirm a diagnosis"

Then they actually came up with a biomarker test except it has like a 20% false positive and a 20% false negative problem so that's no good.

And the meds, some of which can make my symptoms worse and some that can be fatal, if the diagnosis is wrong and I have a different NDD.

Seriously everything is like that with this stuff, it's crazy.

Anyways, I'm feeling a bit better and got to get some gardening done, so, updates incoming when I get started! So enough about me, let's smile and get this party started!
