After years of dealing with mold as September rains settle in, I’m thinking of preemptively putting one of those pop up tents over the plants. We had two days of rain so was going to pop it up after a couple days of sun. I’m worried it will block the sun tho? Should I just use a tarp instead or does it matter? Any advice?

This is a DIYD situation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. With a tarp or tent you won't get the rain, you won't get the sun, but you will be creating a humid space.
What about a straight sided roof with a good slant in the direction of your rain? A straight side won't trap humidity and block rain.
