Strain/flower times descriptions

When looking at the description of a stain one is interested in...how is the length of growth (time, flower) interpreted? When it says 8-10 weeks of flower (or some number like that), what exactly does that mean? Is it from seed (germination)? Or is it from the point the switch to flower occurs...is that when the countdown starts? Is the length of vegetative growth included at all (specifically for photos)? Also height...what is the rule of thumb about that? What constitutes 'short', 'medium', and 'tall'?

The 8 to 10 weeks means from the switch to 12 hours of darkness for indoor grows. (For outdoors they usually give a expected harvest date like September or Early October - though this can vary depending on your latitude.) The amount of time a plant stays in vegetative phase for indoor growers is completely up to the grower. You can start the flowering stage for a plant at 3 weeks or 3 months. Height usually refers to how much the plant will stretch in the flowing phase. Short plants will usually grow less than double and tall plants more. The best way to control height is to train during veg. What you don't want to do is grow a 2 foot plant in veg that is a "tall" strain and expect it to fit in 4 feet of growing space in a tent.

well said newf took me a long time to figure that out read nebulas tutorial on training plants will also strecth if the light is to far away so wacth that my friend and I tend to go the same strains we clone for each other but he grows in Hydro and I grow in 75/25 coco/perlite his bloom time is about two weeks shorter than mine. and outside is even longer. it all depends on the strains even autos I started two auto plants outside when they had three sets of shoots one went into bloom cute little thing about 8 inches tall and one tiny bud lol the other made up for the small one and was amazing . I buy at Bonza seeds .com and they give a great description of the strain depending on the seed producer
