"Staged Harvest" candidate in the wings?

Thought I would document, a staged harvest, as we often get questions on the forum.

This is by no means a guide, but a walk through of the process I use.

The difference in height was the tip off a staged harvest may be worth doing.
The Lemon OG Haze (smallest in the tent) on the left measures only 13" plant- while the Alien v Triangle on the right measures 28" (plant).

The LED's I use penetrate about a foot down a plant and I was surpised that the lower portion of the AvT developed buds.
The plant had been lolipoped, but no defoliation:
In week 4 of flower, it was obvious the plant would not mature well below 12" down.

With staged harvest in mind- I defoliated in wk#5 (below) keeping in mind, the upper portion may be mature much sooner than lower-bush.

I left a rather large amount of lower fan leaves and hoepful there will be some remaining- after the first stage is harvested.

Nutrients are a little tricky, low enough to harvest yet high enough for the second stage to continue growing a few more weeks.
I have nothing else going into the tent until January- so no rush

Time to wait and see- how this ripens over the next few weeks and if a staged harvest will be worth while.
 
Stage #2 update:

Trichomes are cloudy with little clear and no amber- the hairs have darkened - so I will continue feeding with no N and at 1/2 strength until amber trichomes- then plain water only.

The buds are not dense and not larfy, but it looks like I have time (est 10 days) for fattening up and perhaps more growth, too.
 
Oh wow you really lollipop those thing don't you? Can i ask what light you have and how much longer she has to go?

Scratch that @weedpharma, im slow lol i just realized thats the same plant you took the tops from. Freakin outstanding. I feel like what you have left if that plant is still more than my whole plant! Haha but again, fantastic job. And can i still know you light please? Thanks!
 
I’m growing with Marshydro LEDs @300 w, and 2 reflectors @240 & 480- currently it’s under the MarsHydro reflector48, 240w.
 
The 300w draws 128w- the 240w draws 105w and the 480w draws 205w.
Be mindful that the fans and drivers use some of that wattage,too so it's not available for the plant.
 
Update: 7 more days of bud growth and they are getting much larger and begining to fill out- drinking has slowed by about 1/3.
The trichomes are cloudy and have begun to topple-
I should have more time, as long as, shake leaves don't yellow!
 
Great looking buds, both harvested and ripening!
I'm a big fan of harvesting in stages, and usually get quite a bit of additional weight on those lower buds when I let them ripen some more, always seems worth it.
Like the whole making a plan you have going on, good ideas on how to harvest in stages, better. Will have to start experimenting with leaving a skirt of fan leaves like you do.

I routinely leave a small skirt on all plants.
Any remaining lower leaves, act as a visual clue to the plants health and often gives the first sign if somethings just not right.
 
That's a good idea, gonna have to start adopting that one. And you have some nice big yummy fan leaves for her to, if she needs them, even if they don't get much light, they serve a very good purpose!
