Somebody sell me on coco or....?

I tried growing in soil. I really did. Plants just never performed the way I thought they should.
i switched to hydro and never looked back.
Sure, I have to check ppms and pH daily, it takes all of 5 minutes. I generally only have to adjust pH every few days, and that adds 10 minutes or so...once you have a method and a routine figured out.
Plants definitely get bigger, faster...that does not mean they necessarily age/mature faster...
I'm still learning...this is my second grow here in the desert...yield this grow will easily triple my first in this rig.
​​​​​​​so...I'd vote for hydro before soil or Coco. I read a lot of posts with people having trouble figuring out the watering...hydro seems easier to me...prolly because it's what I know...
 
Haha & dirt is what I know. & what I know is if the dirt ain't right neither are your crops. But this is the most sensitive, temperamental crop I've come across. Even Orchids are easier than weed lol. Dirt might not be the way to go.

Which high desert ya from Amigo? I grew up in N. Utah. Dry farms, dairies & tumbleweeds lol.
 
Oh hell. The real desert. At least we had SOME water lol. Now I'm in Oregon with more rain in a year than Utah & Cal combined & LOVIN IT!!!
 
I think the only height restrictions depend on if you have a water pump in your reservoir or not. As long as the roots have space to spread out you should be good with something as short as say 6". I didn't see anyone answer this, or maybe I just missed it. As for the net pots, I use 3" pots and they work fine. Maybe if you're trying to grow huge trees you may want to go a little bigger. The roots will come out the sides and bottom and will usually weave into the rest of the roots making "transplanting" in hydro pretty difficult without breaking some. I've had over 2' tall plants in them with plenty of room to grow, if that gives you any idea. I have both hydro and soil going right now. I like the faster growth rate with hydro but don't like having to check everything constantly. I usually check things every few days cause things don't usually adjust enough to check every day, at least not this time. Hope that helps
 
Believe it or not, I'm gonna grow outdoors this summer. Let's see how this weed likes some REAL sun. Lol
really tho, we did tomato's outdoors last summer and they absolutely rocked. Biggest plants and tomato's I've ever grown...going to use the same method for the girls...
 
Just need to watch out for the winds put up or place them out of those hot dry winds else you'll wind up with cauliflower LOL. I love growing outdoors, it's my gardening passions.
