So What's the Stand on a Portable AC For Your & My Grow Room?

Weather is going to keep on changing everywhere. Down in the dirty south, we are seeing more and more days with a heat index well over 100 degrees and 90-100% humidity. I also expect we will see more extreme weather systems continue to develop. Two years ago in October we had massive flooding and last year in Oct. we had hurricane Matthew. Can't wait to see what this Oct. holds. It's always so much fun to lose power for a week. I think it's better to try to be prepared and not be in denial about what's happening with the warming of the planet. Seriously considering investing in a good generator...

Well my AC arrived yesterday and your absolutely right it was 77 when I turned it on and 1min later with it set on 75 it was 73! BUT then 2 minutes later it was 80 and climbing! I am going to get an insulated duct now. 😎

Make sure the vent is tight. Also if it has a dehumidifier built in turn it off. It works by heat. Mine does the same thing . Had to buy a seperate dehumidifier. You wouldn't notice that momentary rise in an open space but in a grow room it's a lot. Also if you get a dehumidifier make sure and buy a sump pump. Good luck

alltatup I said the same thing before I bought mine. I guess wheels is the reason. Plus it's easier to take out than a window unit. And for the winter you could put it up. The air out of the back is hot as shit! I'm vented out the ceiling which I couldn't do otherwise so that's a plus.

Well it took some creative HVAC that seems like it would have made it hotter but it worked. I ran the exhaust to the intake of the light (previously the light was cooled with A/C from the central air) ran that (all R8 insulted duct didn't use the supplied duct) to an inline fan that runs into another inline fan then to the carbon filter and then out. I should explain the 2 inline fans...... one runs constantly and the other is on a temperature controller and come on at 76.4 and goes off at 76F. Previously I had a Y connection that picked up the light exhaust and connected to the carbon filter in the tent. When only one fan ran most of the air was through the light (least resistance) but when the second fan kicked in it would pull a lot more (as evidenced by the increase in suction on the tent) through the filter to remove latent heat.

Day 2 with the A/C just to see if it will do it I have the A/C set for 70, the room has been under 73 since I changed it from 78 to 70.

Through the hottest part of the day and with it set to 70 on one end of the 4x8 tent my 4x4 grow on the other end of the tent was 72.5 at the canopy below the HPS. I didn't even change the temperature controller from 76 so the second duct fan never got triggered. Was 80 outside today so not really hot but I am in the basement so outside don't effect me much. I will say it is a good addition to my setup.

Tazard Great job!!! Sounds very complicated to me, but I can sorta see it in my mind's eye. It's so good when we find solutions to this kind of problem.

Thanks. When I first set it up and room got hot my ❤️ sank 😂. Necessity is the mother of all inventions!

I used hose clamps for the connections. The dehumidifier on it is dumb the dry air comes out the exhaust so I won't be using it but may get a little dehumidifier and vent to the A/C as you have.

Yep that's how mine worked. I also bought some carbon filter sheets and replaced the ones on the back of the ac. No smell.

Added a small 35p/day dehumidifier with a garden hose gravity drain. The connection is about 7" above the floor so plenty of head to drain to floor drain about 15' away. Used a small cardboard box to collect the output from the dehumidifier (80F @ 25% rh) I cut a 6" hole in the box to route the warm dry air to the intake of the air conditioner just as Capncanna suggested. I am messing with my exhaust cfm and passive intake sizes and locations. Once I get it dialed in I will post an update.

Perfect taz , I'm gonna reroute all mine after this grow. They are in the way , but I bought them 5 months in. I should harvest week or so and they will get a small break.

I use a portable AC to cool the room my grow room pulls in and vents out to its created a nice cycle with a fan. The air goes in and out of the grow room the fan mix's air and the ac takes in air and blows it my window. Cost me 320 I believe from Lowe's but mine looks bigger than the posted pictures in the beginning of this thread
