Small tent - ventilation question

noties

New member
Long time lurker...I've done a few grows over the past few years mixing indoor and outdoor with OK success. Decided I want to up my game and really focus and learn more so I've acquired a grow tent and new light.

Tent is 2 x 2 x 4.
Spider Farmer SF1000 LED light..

Question is: How much ventilation might I need inside? I realize it's probably different for different areas of the country. I live in Southern California. I'm guessing that the standard answer is going to be "You'll need whatever ventilation is necessary to maintain the correct temperature and humidity levels."

Would I need an exhaust fan like an AC Infinity 4"? I've read that for small tents it's sometimes overkill (and sucks in the walls! LOL)

I'm guessing I would defintiely need at least an oscillating fan inside to move around. Is that sufficient?

Thoughts?

Thank you!

You'll need decent air changeover to keep temps at a reasonable level and later in flower to keep humidity down but you'll just have to see how you go. 4" inline will do easy.

Agree with Bluey. I have two 2 x 2's and a 5 x 5. One of the 2 x 2's I use to house mother plants and the other I use as a tester. In the tester I have a USB 4" fan to circulate air inside the tent. I use a 6" clip fan sitting in the roof hole for the exhaust and manually control the speed to keep environment in range. The mother tent badly needs a decent air circulator as the 4" in the tester was what I was using for the mother tent. I also need to find a good cheap 6" fan to use as an exhaust for the mother tent. Current grow running in the 2 x 2 tester.

A 4" inline from ACI would be great for air exchange. A speed controller would help in dialing in your environment. A digital controller would pretty much automate it all. I know this is where I'll end up as I use ACI's 6" fan and digital controller in the 5 x 5 and I love it.

Have you tried the generic computer case fans? They seem to last a long time and only cost a dime or two.

Funny you should mention that because I was just looking around the net for a 6" fan. I need one as an exhaust fan for my mother tent. Where do you get yours cheap? I can get a Honeywell Turboforce fan for around $16 and it will last me for years 24/7. It's a little on the loud side but it can put out an immense amount of air for its size and the noise level when the fan is set to low is more than acceptable.

I saw a 140mm fan that AC Infinity sells for around the same price as the Honeywell. Only problem is the ACI fan doesn't put out enough CFM for the air exchanges I'd like in the tent.

If you know of a better quality 140mm or 6 inch fan that can beat that price I'm all ears!!!

I have two of those USB fans by AC Inifinity that I've used to ventilate an entertainment cabinet. They're quiet and work great. going to repurpose them for my small tent. Great idea!
