I didn't know I was purchasing a (Sunset Sherbet) auto flower clone on 4/22. What is with the new growth on the buds? Why are the buds so small and so leafy? I've never seen buds like this. The trichomes are milky, it was very skunky smelling but now has dissipated and is sticky. I would like to get the buds larger but it hasn't done so. I grow it outdoors (it's hot here 90-100 during day) in 5 gal pot. Should I harvest now even though the heads are small? Hope someone can explain why and what to do. Thank you!

That's not an autoflower, my guess is that it's a photoperiod plant and is or was getting enough shade to flower.

This was my thought exactly. It looks like he brought the clone home and put it in the yard and it was too early in the spring and not enough hours of daylight or it was shaded enough to flower then it was either moved, something creating the shade moved or the duration of sunlight increased and it revegged and is now back in full on veg mode. With a close look, OP could probably see the changes from the bottom up - veg cycle, flower, reveg and now full veg.
Thank you for the info. The plant has been outside the whole time (4/22 purchase) in Sacramento, CA in a 5 gal pot. I noted in early June the Sunset started flowering. My friend thought it was a auto flower which I've never heard of until I started doing research on this site. I'm confused like the plant! lol... The plant currently gets about 8 hrs of sun.I did snip a bit of the dark bud (?), dried it and smoked it. It's a nice buzz. So I will keep it growing. What is OP? The info and any advice is appreciated! Thanks again!

I don't know shit about autos but I think I saw where someone said that if you clone an auto it's not gonna be a auto. So maybe that's why she got confused and budded early and stopped. It's a genetic disorder because it is a clone from a auto. don't quote me because I could be wrong but I think that's what I read somewhere

Great thanks I've in my 100 + - plants have never even grown an auto that I know of anyway I've had plants bud in the middle of summer so maybe by accident lol. I thought I had seen someone say that it wouldn't be an auto which doesn't make sense because it is a CLONE meaning that it's exactly the same. So yes an auto.... either what I read was wrong or my dumb ass misunderstood what was said so thanks again for fixing my brain on this.....

MeEasy this is my first successful summer of growing autos. I tried last summer outdoors no good. But this late spring seemed to turn it around, got good amounts and fairly potent smoke not up to my photos potency yet but it's helpful. I'm a old photo grower outdoors smoked many a spider i'm sure 
we were not real picky nor able to babysit our grows back then like now. I'm in a legal state and it's so much more relaxed being able to talk and grow with friends near by.

Legal? Not sure what that means lol it's RX only here... I'm a 80s era grower where I could only visit my girls once a month if I was lucky. My health took a turn and five heart surgeries later I'm growing in a closet. Having to learn a whole new way of doing things but it's a challenge I enjoy. I just came out of the closet (pun intended) where so far 7 of 9 solo cups have the start of my 5th attempt at indoor growing. 🤞.... have fun

Photo's need at least 14 hrs of light but preferably 18 hrs light 6 hrs dark to keep the plant in veg. If you have outside lights on at night it can trick the plant into thinking it is still day which will keep it in veg. To initiate flowering you need 12 hrs of light or less. This makes the plant think it is getting closer to winter and the plant produces buds. I suggest doing some studying on the main site https://www.growweedeasy.com/link-guide-growing-cannabis to get an understanding on how light can effect plant development. 8 hrs a day for flower may not produce great quality bud. You may want to supplement with some lighting for a few hrs after dark as the less light it gets the less food it has and the less bud it produces.
Also, you have a photo, not auto. Breeders cant sell auto clones as they are on a fixed time line. A cut from the mother is just as old as the mother plant and should finish at the same time as well.

Hey MeEasy yep that's the way we did it back then even here. I got ripped off 1 x but had mostly good luck all those years. Now we got 4 plant limit per household but i've had shit outdoor grows now last 2 summers. This year was my biggest F-up to date by placing them outdoors too early as you may of read? So learning this indoor growing has been such a blessing. I never really judged yet how the outdoor vs indoor photos stood up to the perfect harvest test yet for smoking. I was going to give it a go this year but i messed up so not sure how these will grow till the end. I just wanted to compare my own home grown in/out. It's alot of fun this indoor your going to love it i hope.
