Single bulb grow lights

Does anyone know of a source for single MH/HPS grow light fixtures? Maybe a two bulb set up. I like the idea of being able to hang a few single bulbs down alongside the plants.

I think these all require a ballast but a string of bulbs with a ballast at the end (as with Christmas tree lights) would be pretty useful IMHO.

Grow Light Central doesn't carry anything like it - I've asked.

Any thoughts from this crew?

can't say I've ever seen HPS or MH lights in a daisy chain.

You can get a ballast and hang bare bulbs vertically with no reflector though.

That is pretty much what I'm thinking to do. Would you need a special fixture base or just any old light string with a ballast set up on one end somehow? I'm not an electrician - might not be using the right terminology and may not have the ballast concept figured out. I'll keep researching. Any direction will be appreciated.

Electrically speaking, there is almost no similarity between HID bulbs and incandescent bulbs like Christmas lights. If you connect a discharge bulb (HPS or MH) directly to line voltage, it will pull current until something burns up. You need a ballast to control the instantaneous bulb current throughout the AC power line's voltage cycles. I very, seriously doubt there is any way to connect these bulbs in either series or parallel.

This is great too but takes up more room than I have at this time. Still - it is keeping with my objective. I knew I was not an original thinker on the subject!
 
Thanks OZ these are exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe not practical but I will consider if and how I can use something like those.
Seems they could be useful hanging low around the mid-height of some plants.
