Silencers or the like

So with my new room built and running I've noticed how loud my exhaust fan is. Infinity T8 paired with 8"×20" carbon filter. I was poking around on Infinity's webpage and found that have silencers available. Anyone use them? Do they actually make a difference in the volume? Are they worth it???? The price isn't horrible, $64.99 USD.
One issue I'm having is that on their site they say they can be used with the exhaust fan in the grow room buronowhere on the site do they say that you can use a filter, silencer and the fan itself (in that order). Should I just assume that it will be ok?

For $64.99 you can buy a lot of egg crate foam. Try and make it yourself?

Try some old foam packing material. I don't know how you have your setup, but you could more or less house or wrap the fan with the foam and fasten it with duct tape. I love finding my own solutions. I have a low speed fan that is quiet as a tomb. It is still moves enough air to change out the entire tent 2.5 times per minute.
