Morning 420710, if I was on my first grow I would use supersoil, like KindSoil, then all you need is good water, you want need nutrients, it's in the soil.
That way you will get familiar with how the plant grows, and knowing how they grow will help you in the future bigly.
Really simple with organic supersoil.
If that is too easy for you ,you can always grow in coco or something else, and add all the other sh-t, that you got to have.
Growing in supersoil, you don't even have to ph your water if it's good.
Good Luck with your first grow, plenty of good help here on GWE, if needed.
Main thing I can tell a new grower, is do not overwater your seedlings, especially if your growing autoflowers.

  1. Temperature and humidity

You may also want to consider intake fans - or other things to control climate - but depends on your climate!
 
Absolutely agree with Campy. Coco is cool. (Drain-to-waste coco is super easy and works great.) And yes to all those meters as well. It's so much easier and more interesting to grow when you're not flying blind, and so helpful when you have problems or questions to know what your readings are.

Two more thoughts:
1. You absolutely must buy a bottle of pH 7.0 calibration liquid for your pH meter and calibrate regularly. (GH makes pH 7.0 that you can buy at Amazon.)
2. (And I respectfully disagree with Campy on this one): All you need is a two- or three-bottle fertilizer plus maybe a calcium-magnesium supplement. (Definitely get some Ca/Mg for coco growing.) If you want to add sugars, bacteria, "bloom boosters," and all that happy stuff, wait and do it on your second grow. You may find that you never bother because the basics work great.

PPS: The organic folks will tell you that pot is better when grown in blood, bone, poop, and seaweed, but the plant doesn't know and doesn't care where the minerals it needs come from. "Chemical" fertilizer works just as well.

I'm not trying to cut in on you or anything, But supersoil is lots easier than coco, especially being this is his first grow.
 
Yeah, we basically agree...
But I do think there are a few things to add beyond the basics... as you anticipated :)
Two things I rec to beginners
1: Humic acid improves nutrient uptake = Diamond Nectar (I would actually specifically rec this for you too DoctorJohnson b/c I know you must swing pH in your system... although I don't think I have ever seen your plants?!)
2: Silica is amazing and I think beginners benefit from it = Armor SI
I like to use things to promote root development and I also use surficants. Of course, in Bloom I use Koolbloom to, among other things, maintain my EC at target. I think you could skip these, but I would recommend silica and humic acid to beginners.

Of course Cal Mag in Coco!!!

I don't know anything about humic acid, but noted with interest.
I should post some photos since I'm always shooting my mouth off around here. I'm harvesting my low-wattage White Widow recirculating coco grow soon (if the trichs ever cloud up...) and will post some snapshots then.

That is the one add-on nutrient that absolutely everyone seems to agree is really helpful. I have to guess that there must be something to it just by preponderance of evidence, despite my endless snarky litany that everything you need can be found in 2 or 3 bottles...

That's a very good point. I love coco, but really good soil should be lot simpler. The trick is getting really good soil. I can tell you from personal experience that the stuff you get for $1.99 a bag at the hardware store does not qualify. ;)

I certainly agree that it can be easy to get carried away with supplements, too! And there are serious risks of burn if you start playing with things like koolbloom without understanding how to manage EC/PPM. But Silica and humic acid pose little to no risk, even to beginners (well, don't spill silica on yourself!) and yield significant benefits... So maybe just 5-6 bottles... well how many bottles should we count...
My minimum bottle count for a basic Coco grow:
1 Cal Mag
2 Micro
3 Grow
4 Bloom
5 Humic Acid
6 Silica
7 pH up (or substitute SM-90 and get benefits of a surficant)
8 pH down
9 7.0 Calibration fluid

Super Soil? Never heard of this before.. I am from Uk will try have a look around.. any particular brand?
 
Hello iGrow, I'm in the US, but I'm sure that you have several different types of supersoil over there as well, ask around ,and you will find some.
But for a first grow you want find anything as easy, as supersoil. It's organic and very simple to use, maybe not everyone thinks this , but it even makes your smoke taste better, at least to us around here anyway.
But it is easy to use, and it grows awesome, beautiful plants too.
After you get used to growing ,then you might want to try coco, but trust me for a first time grower, it's not that easy at all, I've been growing for a day or two, and I still love supersoil and use it alot.

The small stuff a grower needs:

Here are some smaller things that I find indispensible in the grow room:

1. Syringes with hose for measuring nutrients etc.

2. I use pee pads (for incontinence or for pets to pee on) on the table where I keep my nutrients, because stuff drips. I also use them on the floor when I'm doing water changes in my hydro reservoirs.

8. Supply of paper towels. I say paper instead of cloth because I try to keep the grow room clean (not leaving dirty cloths around).

10. "In case of" pests and problems supplies: I have neem oil, gnatrol and yellow sticky paper for fungus knats.

12. I use H2O2 to sterlize my materials after I harvest, so I keep a supply on hand at 35% strength: it ends up lasting much longer than the 3% solution.

I could keep going, but I won't. The things I listed help me to keep my grow room clean and to address problems immediately. I've learned what I needed through necessity. :)
