hey people, happy 4/20, here's the q. i'm about to start some w.w. autos and some purple kush photos in solo cups from seed in a south facing pic. window. i see some ppl. with a clear plastic covering over the seed/seedling, should i do this? if i do, how long do i lv. it on for? what about air? any help would be greatly appreciated as it's only my 2nd try and last time didn't go to good thanks

The clear domes (water bottle cut in half) are for humidity. MJ seedlings like warm moist air. Keep the dome over your seedlings until the leaves touch the sides of the dome. You'll see when it's time to remove it. Let your seedlings grow in their solo cups until the leaves reach the sides of the cup. They'll be ready to transplant at that point. Click on growing basics at the top of this page. There's a wealth of information to help you.

thanks for the info, i've read the whole gwe site and i didn't see any thing about the hum. domes except a cpl. pics. i'll give it a shot when my seeds pop

Now that we're talking about it I seem to remember it that way as well. I think I picked up that tip from a user on this forum. Hope your grow goes well.

Listen up - those humidity domes are crucial for seedling success, but you've gotta manage them right. For autos and photos in solo cups, use a clear dome for the first 4-5 days max, removing it 2-3 times daily for air exchange. Window growing's tricky though - you'll need way more light than that for decent development. White Widow and Purple Kush both need minimum 18 hours of strong light in veg. Consider grabbing a basic LED grow light if you want viable plants.

yeah i'm gonna move them outside to 5 gal. pails after they outgrow the solos. the spot i have gets pretty much full sun all day

Domes till first leaf, then put holes in them to drop the RH from 100% down to about 80%. Window is fine to start them but don't go to full sun after window, progressive exposure over 10 days ir so should work well.
