Second Bubble Hash Attempt

UPS gave me my bags a day earlier than expected. Three cheers.
Been nurturing all my gingerated hatred about this IWH thing. Fork load of mess and equipment. More water than I planned for. My kitchen is getting smaller, it seems.
My math is off, it also seems. 3/4 gallons of water for washing in the 220 bag. That strains to the next bag and water is used to wash the inside of each successive bag to work the trichomes. By the time you get to the 25 bag, there is more than a gallon of water.
The kicker for my hate was seeing only the few grams drying on the coffee filters. I don't know what it's going to be, but I went in with a humble 10-gram hope for return. I might have three. Man, the hate! Then I realized I was not working with 150 grams of ground primo, but 150 grams of trim, larf, and popcorn. Whatever return I get is good for being trim, but I want more for the work, damnit!
Pictures... later.
Cold cure rosin is the shizz-bang and I want to make it. I'm putting it on my wanna-do list.

I'm hoping to do a Christmas wash of all the un smoked stuff from the season to make room for fresh stuff. We'll see how much I have left over for that wash.

I took will be doing larf so if I can get a solid gram, I'll consider it a success. Maybe I'll be surprised. There's some thick lines of sand at the bottom of those bags. At the end of the day, I need the practice and trim is perfect for that. I don't want to put good bud in and tosh up the whole process.

First 2 washes of 1gal of trim. I still have 1 more gallon of trim 😱😱😱😱. There's like 2-3g there easy. I just can't believe the quantity.... And that wasn't even the good trim..... So hype! It's going so well!

I have extracted Keif in a couple of different ways, I used the bubble bags and even bought a small washer to put them in. Try the dry ice method and you will never go back, so much easier less mess and no risk of mold. Now I use the washer for mixing nutrients and that works well.

I did the dry ice (I have easy, free, unlimited access) and it worked so smoothly. I made it with fresh trim.

I did run into a problem in that I stored it in my fridge soon there after. I came back from traveling and it grew mold :( Fun while it last tho.

Is that keif or trim? I bought a sifter and I store keif in the fridge with no problems so far and some of it has been in there for over a year

Yooooooooo!!!!!!! 35g!!!!?????!!!!???
Granted it's wet but I squeezed a lot of that water out. I can be sure that it's not 30g of water and only 5g of hash.

Waaaaaay more bubble hash than I expected. I was gonna be happy off of a gram.... Multiply the happiness by 30 😉🙏😁

Popped it into the Cannatrol to dry for the next few days. Probably just going to keep the 3 grades separate. 120 micron, 73 micron and 25 micron. The washed bud goes right into the worm bin. My buddy said how would you feel if one day you're just in your house minding your own business and somebody comes and just dumps a bunch of weed on you? My response, "Very Happy!!"

So after it dries....I need to grind it up again and then what press it with heat right? Or can I store it as is? I know I won't get mold in the Cannatrol but I also want to preserve it nicely. I know about temple balls. Maybe I'll just make those

No idea. Sometimes mine dries back to kief. This time it is staying taffy. I've been pulling and working it to try to get it to dry.

The bubble hash has been in the Cannatrol for over 24hrs. It's gummy in texture. It's got a darker oxidized layer on the outside and a lighter color on the inside if I break it open.

I guess my next step is to let it dry some more, then freeze it, grind it back into powder and then press it? But obviously not with a press. I'm going to have to use some autoclave bags and a glass bottle with hot water inside. Get it rolled up into Temple balls..... The problem is I don't want to lose that golden ish color any more than I have already. If I press it with a hot bottle it's all going to oxidize and turn a dark brown. Which is traditional hash but with more science, we know there's better ways of preserving it.

Just trying to weigh my options and figure out the best way forward.

Gingerbeard yes mine is at the taffy stage. I'm guessing there's still some moisture in there but it's also an oil so it should be sticky taffy like. I think we need to freeze it and grind it on a frozen zester.

Okay since I can't freeze dry my hash, I have no choice but going the oxidized route. Any air drying, even in the Cannatrol which is air drying, will result in a darker color.
I think I should just be able to work this material into a ball and it should get an external casing to lock all the goodness in. Kinda what's been happening. The water activity level has dropped to at least 0.68 so mold won't grow on it. Maybe I'll process one by freezing and grinding it up and the other just pressing it as it is and see what comes out better. I'm sure I'll be making more hash by next spring with how many plants I have growing.

I let my taffy sit for a couple days. No freezing or grinding or pressing or such. The taffy has turned back into powdery kief. Freezing and grinding and all that busywork speeds up drying but is unnecessary, I'm finding.
Oxidation happens. Stupid oxygen. But isn't oxidizing also called curing in the weed world?

It is to be debated how much oxidation is needed/wanted. Look at the tea world. It's all tea but depending how it's oxidized will determine the color of the tea as well as flavor intensity. Same with tobacco curing. Maybe we want some oxidation but how much is the optimal amount to really make the product shine. Because let's remember purity doesn't equal quality. I hate thc diamonds. So expensive for paranoia in a bowl. The terpenes and processing for preservation also adds to the complexity of those flavors.

No3odiesShad0w diamonds are a gimmick. Diamond sauce is a gimmick. In the world of solvent extraction, anything beyond the first purge is a gimmick.
THC-A diamonds are an ingredient to mix with terpenes or as a bowl topper. Like you said, diamonds are for paranoia making. The methamphetamine of the marijuana world. Once or twice is fun. Like taking a shot of 190 Everclear.
Veni, Vidi, meh.
