RH while curing question

Hi all. I've been growing seen last fall. This is my first summer curing product. Everything in the qt Ball jars with a 62 Boveda in them. In a dark closet. RH is staying around 70-80. Will the Boveda keep the harvest happy or should I invest in a dehumidifier or move them to the cooler basement? I have been burping once a day but I read from someone else here if you burp in high RH it will make the Boveda work twice as hard. I guess I see the burping to be to introduce fresh air into the buds. I would rather not buy the dehumidifier just due to my small house/storage issue. Give me some ideas...

Hi jamesphoto Yes and yes. I am super picky, but I say that if I want to grow top shelf weed, I got to go all out. You want 60% humidity for drying and curing, and the hotter it is, the more terpenes and cannabinoids will evaporate. I keep my cure room at around 68 degrees; it's the coolest room in the house, and my jars are in the dark closet.

I have a separate room that I dry buds in, and I have 2 60 pint dehumidifiers: one for the grow room during flowering and the older one, the spare, I use in the drying room to keep the humidity at 60%. With the humidity where I live, I empty the grow room dehumid. reservoir twice every 24 hours.

Moving to basement: if it's dry and cool, that's a good environment. If it's humid and cool, that's an environment that will invite mold and ruin your buds. Dehumidifier can eliminate the moisture if the space isn't huge; you don't want to be emptying the reservoir all the time. And, where you cure should be easy to get to, because it's a good idea to check the jars 2 or 3 times a day for the first week, making sure the jars are not getting to high in humidity.
 
Humm. Thank you. Now ya got me thinking. My basement is finished (so not just a crawl space) and it SEEMS cool and not humid but I need to put the meter down there to see for sure. I'm new so once the summer crop gets cut there will be lots of jars to keep happy. You have a great set up. I'm hoping the Boveda packs are doing their job. I live in Michigan so the humidity comes and goes all summer long. Thank you for your help!
 
Get you a Caliber IV hygrometer; they're expensive, but totally reliable for 2-3 years. I always use them after drying and jarring.

I only use the Bovedas if I ever have bud left over that's reached 58% RH, but that never happens. However, I keep the Bovedas on hand.
 
$39.95. Does that meter go inside the jar or sit in your cure room with all the jars? Your right that would be a high price to put one in each of your jars (or one in every 3rd jar even...)
