RH in cure jar?

I know we're looking for ~62 RH finish cure, I'm curious what RH are the jars at the first day people are putting their buds in the jar to cure?

It strikes me as odd that we do so many things by time/days esp. considering all the different variables each grower has, esp. when we're talking about home grows rather than a production set-up. I'm curious if a target RH can be established where the "dry" test isn't some 3-10 days when ever the stems, pop, snap, crack, don't leave strings, test large stems, small stems, etc. depending on who's telling the procedure isn't so arbitrary. Something more along the lines of put buds in jar for 1 hr, check RH if at X% begin cure cycle, if above remove and dry another day. Or something similar.

I'm not saying the standard way doesn't work, it does, but I have a condition that can make things like "feel" things based on perception, quite difficult at times, sometimes impossible. It could be for minutes hours or days before I'm back where I can kind of deal with things like that.

This really came up for me during a recent Water Curing experiment when I realized that while the 3-7 days was a good baseline checking the PPM's each water change was way more accurate on when the buds should/could be removed, so now I'm looking at the dry/cure cycle, to see if I can come up with a decent measurement system for myself.

Pretty much I'm looking for data points based on our collective experience for a starting point instead of going in blind.

The RH in the jar ranges from 48-68% and curing brings it to around 62%.
i use the RH to determine when I will do the first burp between 24&48 hrs and how long I keep the jars open- each time.

That said, once the RH stabilizes around 62% - I'm done and those jars are opened once a week.
 
Have you noticed any differences if you start at 48 compared to 68?

When you're coming up from that low are you able to do the increase just keeping them sealed a while or are you adding humidity packs?

If you put in jar how many hours should pass for the humidity to stabilize and what should the humidity be (normal burp)? At what humidity at or before the above time should they be removed from the jar to dry further (i.e. I put them in jar and set _%rh as critical)?

We gonna have this shit down all scientific and stuff.
 
No difference with the starting point, as curing tries to equalize the moisture content and moves it to where it's needed. up or Down.
I do throw a healthy fan leaf in the jar , for a day or so- if it's very low
 
You are doing it the 'artistic' way, I'm a scientist. There are instruments which do a far more reliable job of measuring humidity than feeling/bending/snapping plant stems. Having designed several instruments which needed to measure humidity in order to do other jobs, I know a bit about the available technology for that purpose. 'Relative' humidity is 'relative' to temperature, so that needs to be measured accurately to get accurate humidity numbers. The best way to do that is with a single-chip sensor such as the 'SHT' series from Sensirion. The one I purchased last year from Amazon is no longer listed, but identical products are still available:

Just poke the sensor end of the instrument into your drying jar or box or chamber and within a few seconds you will have accurate information with no guesswork required.

Yeah- when I started growing, I thought it was 90% science and 10% bullshit. (my mantra was/is " it's all bullshit until you smoke it"- you may quote me)

As time went on, I began to see it as 70% science and 30% art.
I see it as 30% science and 70% art, these days.

I've been all science in my career, so a big adjustment for me- regardless of the actual percentages!
 
By now what were 'mysteries of science' are probably more like 'the art of science. For me, this is 'stuff I did when I was working'. In any case, if you need a reliable T/RH instrument, something based on the SHT series of parts is generally a good choice. The main clue is that those products state humidity accuracy specs which run from nearly 0% to almost 100% humidity. Anything which uses older technology won't come close, and probably costs almost as much.
