Refillable carbon filter?

Hi all,

Throwing away used carbon filters seems super waistefull and a poor environmental choice. Plus I wonder how long they sit on a shelf, filling up on other elements. Does anyone know of a refillable option or have a suggested DIY idea?

I would welcome your thoughts!

I read a post once from a guy who said he worked for a carbon filter company saying that you could boil (or was it just put them in hot water?) the elements to recharge them. Might be worth looking into...

Thanks for the response Doc J., I did a little digging cause I like to learn. You can recharge active carbon, but I am thinking it’s not going to be something I try. Here is what I have gleaned thus far. You need to bake it for an undisclosed amount of time at 300 - 600 degrees celcius. Organic materials bonded to the surface would burn and or release at this stage.

I would bet the smell would be something else too... my thought was how hard is it to refill, and is there a brand that uses that option?
