Red stain seed

I was popping some seed the old fashioned way between two pieces of toilet paper, One of the seeds was staining the paper red, ive never seen that before, any ideas? cheers

I "pop" my seeds the real old fashioned way, I plant them in the ground, so I have not seen this red stain.

Maybe some type of fertilizer or insecticide, or anti fungal. Seen that on vegetable seeds. Were they from a seed bank?

My thoughts as well Ckbrew. If the seeds were from a commercial producer, they could very well be coated with some sort of fungicide to promote longer storge. I use only the seeds that my plants produced (feminized from nanners) and I have not ever seen any staining on the paper towels when germinating them.

Could they have been sold as 'novelties'? I've seen overseas vendors who coat their seeds and sell them as such. Been a while, but I've seen it.

Be careful! You may well have uncovered some Russian Seed cell. The FSB may come calling.

Could be that anti fungle agent they put on corn seeds. Never experienced it myself though.
