Red spectrum t5 lights, how many?

Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to best use my t5 4' light bay. I'll be switching to 12/12 in a couple of weeks. Right now I have 8 blue spectrum bulbs. If I was to replace them with red spectrum fluo bulbs would I replace them all or some of them? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm, if it were me I'd replace them all.

More light equals more food for the plants.

However I've only used T5's as a backup to my LED when the thing died so you may want to hold out for a better answer from someone with more T5 experience.

Thanks nurgz! That was my first intention but then started wondering if adding some blue to it would be better. Will wait for others input.

Your blue spectrum lights will work all right but red spectrum would be better. How much wattage do you have ? The more the better.

I believe the blue lights will cause the plants to stretch more than the red but by how much I do not know. If you are worried about the flowering stretch maxing out your room's height then I'd switch them all to red.

However as 'kingfish' says you could get away with not changing bulbs at all or replacing half of the bulbs for a more even spectrum, but don't reduce the total number of bulbs in use. More power equals more yields.

My worry about the stretch is an entirely different subject I need to post about!😄 Your suggestion makes total sense though. I'm just trying to maximize this yield but still know squat about spectrums, lumens and all that jibber jabber!

Hey king, I have 8 bulbs 4' each, not sure about your question. The red bulbs I'm looking at on amazon say 54w

We used the T5 6400k's for veg and had great results. We did buy 3200k's to replace for bloom, but did not rely on them solely. Footprint of tent is 4' x 8'. We bought two leds, one for each end of tent. If I was sticking with only the T5's I'd change only half the bulbs to the red. They don't penetrate as well, so make sure to keep all fan leaves blocking bud sites removed, and try to keep a nice flat canopy. Otherwise you may want to consider supplements with some hanging cfl's that you can position exactly where they are needed.

I never presume that a grower has unlimited resources to get what is really the 'best'. Sometimes you just have to make the best of what you got. Good Luck.

Sorry, I forgot to mention a small detail. This fluo bay is only there to cover the space between my 2 1200w leds!!!! Those have flower swtches

That was a very important detail to leave out!! LOL

I think you're covered then. If you haven't already bought the red spectrum T5s, save your money and use what's already in fixture.

Yeah only half the coffee cup made it to the brain so far😂! Well crap sounds like the consensus will make my walllet happy. Thanks to you alll... once again!
