Recently topped, I want to defoliate lower new growth

I topped yesterday and I noticed that the newer growth from next node down is looking very healthy.

Since my goal is to double out the colas from my cut on up I was thinking about defoliating the lower new growth to force top most new growth to get all the plants energy.

Will that stress my girl to much? I really want that growth at my topped node to expand, not the lower nodes.

So you are suggesting i defoliate the red and black? Or pinch the red and cut the black? Or cut all but the top pair of fan leaves?

Where will the new leaves form?

Bullocks. Pinching leaves works just fine, better IMO. I've chopped off the wrong thing with scissors before. To each their own.

I wouldn't cut anything if I were you. Let the nodes get some girth and stretch out a bit more. Unless you have a specific training regiment, let the plant guide its own training. I really think it's half the fun of growing. I'm not the best at training plants though, I'm indecisive by nature and I lose focus sometimes, but I do have fun with them.
 
That's funny because I'm exactly the opposite I love training!! It's about the challenge of getting the most out of a light!
 
I love training them too. I think you misread? I may not be the best, but I get by. What I meant was to let the plant grow and shape it appropriately as it's growing. Working with the plant, not against it. Ya dig?

Look dude I'm trying to give safe sound advice...it's not easy getting your hand in the middle of a small plant and making a fist to pinch leaves off....

Pinching is fine for outside fan leaf removal...not for inside small growth removal....

You do need a steady hand for both...
 
Just saying, there's more than one way to skin a cat. I have no problems pinching from start to finish. If it's in the middle I can see why you'd use scissors but you did say not to pinch ever.
