Questions on Defoliation

Hi Everyone,

I just re-read the defoliation article by Keef Treez and I have a couple of questions.

1. He didn't mention using the method on Auto-flowers. Can it be used on Auto's? Does it have to be limited?

2. He strongly advised against "lollipopping", however, in other articles Nebula has mentions lollipopping numerous times. Keef didn't mention WHY he was against this, and what was the difference / advantage of the defoliation vs. lollipopping. Does anyone have an answer?

Hi Stoney Welcome to the forum!

The time I've spent with growing them I'm amazed at what they do to survive what we do to them. Everyone has the way to grow the biggest (each he's own) personally I took Nebula's mainline followed to the letter and IT WORKED.

If you have grown plants any kind you have to look at it everyday and ask yourself is it happy? Green75 is using a auto to defoliate and he reads the plant, feeds it super food and good light and they look great and he pulls in the crop to back it up.

I just defoliated the hell out of my photo plant to slow her down and 24 hrs later she looks good! As long as you do the necessary things a plant needs you can mess with them and experiment to get it right for your growing skills. The more you grow the more you learn new things to try.

Well said Karlee, and I agree with you. It almost seems that every grow is like an experiment, each grow is different.

I started my new grow planned to the hilt and everyday is something new to handle LOL I LOVE IT!!!
 
IIRC, that article you mentioned, he doesn't lollipop because he tries to make every branch a bud site. I have tried experimenting with this but I found it to be too tedious.

Id rather skin the bottom and let the plant figure out how to distribute energy. As long as you maintain a somewhat even canopy, you will get good results.
 
Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I do indeed read the plants. I suspected that Auto's would need a little bit more caution, but thought I throw it out there to see if I can gain any more information about it. Thanks again!
