Question for Oil and Edible Makers

Well dipping my finger twice and rubbing under my tongue seems to have gotten me the desired head effects I was looking to get along with body buzz from eating a edible. So it's looks like adding some oil under my tongue to a piece or 2 of my chocolate may just get me what I want in a recreational high.

A friend made her gummies here, I still have all of her equipment. She used two different strains, RSO from the dispo. I slept better when I ate some, only once felt a head buzz. She ran out of the little bear molds then used some bigger ones - leaves. It has always taken me more with edibles, from the start of having a med card in 2016. Sucks. I really like Surp, the strawberry-mango indica version, but it's $25 a bottle, 100 mg, and I need to drink most or all of it in a day.

I've been using edibles for my pain management for 5 years now. Started with simple tincture tincture extraction which evolved to adding a homemade condenser to recover the alcohol.
I made the jump to an Etoh Pro to allow me to do some post processing. I can now produce top shelf extracts that I store in the freezer.
From there, I use that to make my edibles as well as using a Huni-badger portable dab pen let's me medicate whenever I need fast relief.

Ckbrew What would you do with this?

Other than sublingual can it be combined or cooked into a recipe

If "under the tongue" is working for you but you don't like the "burn" of the alcohol, try just adding a little water to your tincture before taking it.

It's cool to watch the clear Tincture go cloudy as the water is added, reminds me of Absinthe! It also reduces the alcohol burning so you can hold it under your tongue longer and dilutes the taste a bit. This works even better for highly potent tinctures since they provide more THC for the same amount of alcohol. A little glass of milk afterwards sooths the throat and sends some milk fat down behind to help light the fire down below!

I worry about my lungs too so this (and dry flower vape) is my go to method and I feel the effects right quick.

Best wishes Poppa

Let me start by saying Thank You to all who have contributed to this post especially @Ckbrew for the under the tongue suggestion. I was able to get what I was looking for in a recreational buzz from the 2 dips of my finger in the oil and rubbing it under my tongue followed by 1 of my infused chocolates taken within the hour following them. The buzz lasted till I went to sleep about 8 hours later and I slept great. During the evening my best/closest friend since we were toddlers called he tried the chocolate 2 weeks back so has experienced the buzz from just it. He commented that everyone who has tried it and were pleased with the effect smoked mainly flower, were I on the other hand have smoked hash 99% of the time since 2019 when I made my first batch so my tolerance may be higher than theirs. That brought our conversation to the fact that since I switched from Opioids to Cannabis 2-14-18 I have not done a tolerance break of more than 1 day at a time and no break in last 2+ years since I started recreational use of hash. Guess I'll be doing a tolerance break in near future and see if that makes the 2 drops under the tongue unnecessary. But that will have to wait the work I have plans to do over next few days will leave my knees aching at night. Once again thanks for the help.

It appears to be a decarbed extract in MCT oil. Could be used as sublingual dose or added to edibles. These products are not regulated like pharmaceuticals. I really have a problem with this kind of packaging. "1000mg THCa" on the bottle doesn't mean much with out knowing the total volume in the bottle, and drops are not standard size, so how many drops/ml? Does the average user have the knowledge to figure the calculations- not likely. Unless this information is somewhere on the bottle not shown in the pix, I would consider this a poor packaging and labeling for something being sold at retail to the public. Imo this type of labeling is deceitful. The concentration should be plainly stated as mg/ml, total volume contained in package, and a calibrated dropper or X drops/ml. This is a retail item that should have been lab tested. If they can state 1000mg in the bottle, the other information is readily available but purposely not stated. Don't know where this came from, but with out regulatory oversight, you have to put your faith in who made it to be telling you the truth- about concentration AND purity. "2 to 5 drops 2 to x times a day" is meaningless with out a stated concentration. I personally would trust myself over an unknown and unregulated stranger who is out to make a profit. So bottom line, you would have to do a dose titration yourself to determine your dose just as if you did not know the concentration in a home made formulation. I see this as a regulatory problem which puts the confidence of the end user in the realm of just trusting an unknown producer. I guess I'm just miffed by the fact that they paid for and have the information that should be on the label of a product that they are retailing, and that I can not get without paying big $$$. I studied and trained and worked for 45 years to make these type of calculations, and produce a product that is accurately labeled and correct. Not being accurate could easily kill someone when dealing with the different drug formulations I have produced in my career. It is like saying I will sell you fuel for you car for $10.00. Great, but how much fuel do I get if you will not tell me the $/gallon, or was it $/liter? Which raises the question how much fuel do I have and how far can I drive on it before running out? Sorry for the rant. It just gets me po'd when we are trying to get cannabis into the legal mainstream, then providers put out products that are poorly labeled, made and sold to the public. Buyer beware.

Good to see things are working out for you. Happy to help. It is good to be able to help people on my own terms with out some bean counter looking over my shoulder wanting to know how much revenue I generated for him. Stay well friend and best wishes.

Dispensary purchase a couple of years ago. Because it's THCa I wondered if I could 'do something' with it to get the psychoactive effect. If it was decarbed why would it be THC-a? I asked last year on a reddit thread, got a shitty, pompous reply from someone making money from edibles.

Achy joints and stuff you should look into making a topical to use. I found a pretty good recipe online and have made some for several other people who swear by it. One of my co-workers got some for his wife who suffers from MS and is in constant pain. He said the first time he rubbed it on her, she was in tears because they finally found something that works for her pain relief. I had a hairline fracture in my foot when I was younger and every once in a while it will flare up and get really sore for no reason. This happened a couple weeks ago and was sore for 2 days before I put anything on it. I was trying to wait it out and see if it went away, but it didn't. I finally decided to use some of the salve I made and within an hour the pain was gone and never came back. Before that I never really had any pain to test it on except for my wrists, but that comes and goes so I wasn't completely sure the salve was working. It's great as a muscle relaxer as well, loosens up my shoulders almost instantly. Just a thought since you mentioned aching knees.

That is the problem with the "legal industry" of cannabis. Due to the federal ban, all the legal states have a patchwork of regulations, and/or lack regs. Who knows what is really in it. The state where I live passed recreational use years ago but is just now getting into the reality of retail recreational sales. They are making headway in regulating guarantee of potency and purity, but at the same time have put restrictions on concentration and total amounts contained in a package. Then we have some "boutique" cannabis stores asking $600.00/oz. Idk if anyone pays that, but dam they got balls to be that proud of their cannabis.

dphipps1020 Do you have a recipe or a link to yours? When I got my mmj card I went to the grand opening of a new dispo, got fingerprints done there. It used to be a great restaurant, I wanted to see it again. There were vendors and free services, healthcare-related. They gave me a puck of what they sell as a balm but they weren't officially selling THC-containing products until the next day. I used the 'puck', added some olive or whatever oil and RSO to make my own balm. It helps me knees, I have to reapply but it helps. The jar is almost empty. Looking for recipe suggestions. This was not a lotion, thicker, it absorbed fast, not greasy on the skin (pugs would lick it off). Felt harder like it had beeswax or something similar in it. Thank you, if you share your recipes.

Just some additional info from personal experience, so ymmv, that said there are things that will impact your final product, first and foremost starts with strain selection, being that you are looking for something more heady I would look at sativa or sativa dominant strains, I’ve had good results with strains that have a proclivity towards alpha-pinene or limonene. Second is when you harvest, don’t wait until everything is completely amber, just a little earlier is better than too late when your looking to avoid a more sedative vibe.

Then moving on to decarboxylation, more heat = comfier couch, so just enough to accomplish the task, prolonged heating will push things farther into the body feel. I preform this step post extraction.

Lastly dosing, always go low and slow to start, this is especially true when you’ve made up a new batch of oil or tincture unless of course if you have access to lab results and then you’ll just need to do the math, remember overindulgence will also find you on the couch or worse...

I utilize coconut oil for edible infusion and always add lecithin as it aids in emulsification as well as absorption. I look to get approximately 1400 mg per tablespoon of oil, this may seem excessive to some but it gives you the most options since being highly concentrated it can be diluted to adjust to the proper fat content of a recipe, also as a side note since the volume increases with the addition of the extract the rough math comes out to about 1000mg per tablespoon of finished infusion.

We are on the low side of the tolerance scale here at home so the typical target dose per serving is 25mg, 3 drops sublingually of the above ratio is enough to know how close we are to the target and then it’s just a matter of adding additional oil if needed.

A heads up, when working with highly concentrated products don’t get it all over your skin as it will be absorbed.

The pic is of the gummies made about a week ago.
