Question about main-lining / manifolding. What to do with off-shoots?

I have a question about main-lining or manifolding. I'm familiar with the processes used to end up with four, eight, or more "mains". But I'm wondering about all those aux branches that form while the plan continues to grow. Am I supposed to remove all of those aux branches that form in the nodes? Or am I supposed to just let them grow at will?

I would let them grow - not at will - make them grow up towards the canopy you are envisioning. And if they get in the way later on, then you trim them out. But you will never know if you cut them off now.

I've experimented with 4 & 8 cola mainlines. I tend to use 4 the most and then allow a few select inner shoots to fill out the interior. Some of the results seem to be very strain specific so you'll need to experiment.
