HELP! pH pen cali

I bought some ph 7.0 standard reference solution. But the pH pen I bought has a calibration of 6.86.... so whenever I try and calibrate it just flashes 6.86 for a while .I've never seen 6.86 solution sold.... Like wtf kind of pen is this
 
You get three solutions to calibrate a ph pen a 4.0. 6. 86 solution and then a 9.18 solution, following the steps you should always clean the probes in distilled water and then test in the first solution etc
 
So you start with the 6.86 solution in250 mls of distilled water, then press calibrate and hold for a few seconds. It should settle at, 6.86. Then was probe in distilled water again, dry and then test and calibrate in the 4.0 solution, repeat again to calibrate at the 9.18. This calibrates your pens range of measurement
 
Yea I've never used one but I thought I would prepare before hand and i bought a big jug of 7.0 solution. I don't think it's any use if the pen can only calibrate to 6.86. I know the pen comes with a packet but that's only good for a few weeks
 
Did you pay less than ten bucks for it? If so no loss really, but when it comes to ph testing ya. Ant beat the general hydroponics ph test and adjust kit,it’s a litmus test system but it’s accurate and you can adjust your ph up and down easily with it,I use a ph pen just a measuring stick
 
Yea it was under $20 for sure I just did the calibration with the powder it came with. It took minutes for it to stop jumping around while testing. And even still it would jump from 7.4-7.5 it's a hunk of junk! Never buy a vantakool pH tester everyone!
 
That's correct just one. And even if I got 5 I'd rather not have to measure the water and then stir the damn powder. Just get a pen that calibrates to 7.0 and use the 7.0 solution haha it's premixed
 
It’s funny cuz I have the same one you’re talking of and calibrated mine tonight, works great, my well water is at 5.85 ph, run off is measuring at 6.45 ish, have a fresh general hydroponics ph test and adjust arriving tomorrow to cross reference, but my eyes are on a bluelab ph test kit lol boohoo bucks there.
 
I must have got a bad one cause I couldn't get a good reading at all! I bought another one and it works great tho :) but I have a small problem. My water is at 7.4 pH and I know for soil it's supposed to be 6-7. I don't have any pH adjuster because I have super soil and I'm having a hard time finding organic pH adjuster that isn't sold in 30lbs at a time for $300 should I be worried about that level of pH?
 
Jeezusjuiicee I use lemon juice or lime juice or distilled white vinegar to adjust the ph down or baking soda, (Bicarbonate of soda) to raise ph, this will not hurt your soil at all use small amounts until your ph reading is where want it.
 
I use two methods to check ph when I use feed The ph test solution kit by general hydroponics ( I don’t use the ph adjusters by them ) this gives me a ball park idea but then when I use the ph pen it matches perfectly in the 6.5 region. Yes the Earth Juice. Product is also excellent.
 
Thanks everyone for all the Input I feel alot better about it now .I have found some good ph adjuster tnb naturals .Was going to do the lime juice or vinegar but I was hearing mixed things about doing that! But I'm all good now thanks y'all :p
