Parts of the plant

I am tryng to get a few facts straight in my mind.What exactly are stipules.Its hard to see in the picture of1 of my plants,is it embedded in the stem or does it grow out of it. The thing I see is like 2 arms strechting up and is embedded. Do you look at the point where the branch and stem join for your pistils and staminate. Thanks for any help

Hello,
You have your fan leafs coming off the main stem! Where this is u will see a wisker on both sides, the wisker is a stipules. When your plant is old enough behind the stipules you will get your presex flowers. You have a too pic of them. Its a very textbook pic. I hope this helps u. GWE has a good pic to in presex flowers.
