The site is being pounded tonight...where did 69 thousand guests come from?? Anybody else having lagging issues?
 
I think it has been that way ever since I joined. Many 1000's of guests. The record was set last year with about 194000 people online so those numbers don't surprise me
 
If you click the 'who's online' link, you get an idea of what's going on. It looks like someone/something keeps logging on as a guest at least every second. None of those guests ever logoff. Someone is invading our beloved forum.

I'm seeing that Gingerbeard, if you look at page 7 -107 of who's online, 1000 guests joined or (were last active) all within 5 minutes...and it goes Way back...Why aren't they signing out?
 
That many at a time is an attack.
As far as not signing off? It could very well be you are not logged off all the sites you have logged onto as well. My computer settings are such that when I logoff, I delete browsing history and cookies, and all those other shenanigans automatically. Some sites I will close and restart my internet after using. Ebay? That's a biggie.
Or, Sirius and Nebula are just funning us. Y'all just funnin' us, kids?
 
I have to wonder how many of those "guests" are bots reading these pages over and over again so some damn search engine can find whatever.
 
I have an idea. It's up to the mods. One way to solve it is to make all the tutorials and how to's viewable to the public, but to access the forum have a bot test. A verification system. If you're getting that many bots then you have no choice.
 
Had me one of them 'Unapproved' forum posts, too. Me, of all people! I thought it was not okay to suggest telling local drug addicts your neighbor is the new trap house in town. Tuns out there is no problem in doing so.
The folks at the head office are trying out a new something to keep spammers away. There are glitches.
